He’s right that McConnell had some authority over the capitol defense as did Pelosi. So given that they rejected additional security, it’s a reasonable speculation that McConnell may have played a role.

Agreed. I knew this article was BS from just the title, which spun this as a highly positioned lawmaker "confessing" the Jan 6 events were a hoax while deliberately not naming his party. The fact that he's a Republican, not Democrat State Senate party leader, told me this was not a "confession" but rather merely his own speculation.
