Good news. The Los Angeles Teachers Union has kind of, sort of agreed to re-open schools. All they require is a laundry list of unrelated far-left demands that would make Bernie Sanders blush.
It’s for the children, after all.

A major Los Angeles teachers union said in a research paper issued Thursday that the reopening of schools should be conditioned upon the passage of Medicare-for-All at the federal level, along with a slew of other left-wing policy staples at the state and local levels.
“It is time to take a stand against Trump’s dangerous, anti-science agenda that puts the lives of our members, our students, and our families at risk,” United Teachers Los Angeles President Cecily Myart-Cruz said in a statement unveiling the paper. “We all want to physically open schools and be back with our students, but lives hang in the balance. Safety has to be the priority. We need to get this right for our communities.”

Can I ask a stupid question?
What does defunding police have to do with opening the schools; what does it have to do with the virus?
What does Medicare For All have to do with opening the schools; what does that issue have to do with the virus?
What does the legal status of charter schools have to do with operating our public schools? And what do charter schools have to do with the virus, which is the reason the schools were closed in the first place?
We should defund them since the teachers are only working like 30 minutes a day online.
How about keep them closed and give me make my school taxes, I’ve always wanted to buy a Ferrari.
Teacher’s unions are political groups, not education groups.
Gee, I wonder why CA is losing people to other states? For those of you still left, think about this: More liberal spending and fewer people to pay for it...guess where the additional money is going to come from?

This is the same modus operandi that Speaker Pelosi and the congressional democrats used during the recent negotiations for the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
Never let a crisis go to waste.
Leave their schools closed. Less kids being indoctrinated into their stupid ideals.

“Police violence is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue,” the union said. “We must shift the astronomical amount of money devoted to policing, to education and other essential needs such as housing and public health.”
As for charter schools, the union called for a “moratorium.” The paper contended that they “drain resources” from public schools and claimed that they “double-dipped” during the pandemic by taking federal bailouts, even though their state funding did not decline.

L.A. teachers aren’t federal employees.
It’s not a stupid question.
But I have to say that I’m sure there’s a few people in California still mad that Nixon beat Helen Gahagan Douglas and are demanding yet another recount!
Here are some stupid answers, in the “minds” of the trade unionists pretending to be teachers (note that these are not MY opinions):
1) Defunding the police frees up large amounts of cash, that can be given to teachers as “hazard pay”.
2) Medicare for All is needed so that the poor children and their families infected with Covid19 through attending school, will have free health care (as if they don’t already have MediCal). It also would give the State of CA more federal funding, freeing up more state funding for teacher pay raises. Paying teachers is why schools exist.
3) Charter schools rob the public schools of the more intelligent and disciplined students (and the funding that goes with them), making public school teachers look bad because all they have left are the criminals and knotheads. By dragging the “better” students to the bottom too, we can achieve “equality”.
Well. There’s always that little problem.
