Trump Will Win If He Responds to Righteous Voter Rage
American Greatness ^ | June 28, 2020 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 06/30/2020 8:36:27 AM PDT by EdnaMode

he 2020 election will be decided in the fall by swing voters in ten or 15 states.

Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, those voters were leaning to reelect President Trump, largely on the powers of incumbency and a near-record vibrant economy. The Democratic left-wing primary agendas, from the New Green Deal to reparations, the clownish candidates of the Beto O’Rourke and Corey Booker sort, the arrogance and meltdown of Mike Bloomberg, and Joe Biden’s cognitive impairment collectively frightened voters.

Meanwhile, the booming economy, record energy production, record-low minority unemployment and reckoning with China had overshadowed Trump’s cul de sac tweeting, 93 percent unfavorable media coverage, and the three-year slow-motion coup of the 25th Amendment nonsense, Russian “collusion,” Robert Mueller, Ukraine, and impeachment.

Then came the contagion, the lockdown, the recession, and the collective madness of looting and arson, which in turn led to the present anarchy of statue toppling, cancel culture, name-changing, and McCarthyism 2.0.

Of course, a president is blamed for chaos on his watch even if he did not create the chaos. He either stops it and is praised as a winner or, like Jimmy Carter during the Iran hostage crisis of 1979-1980, is written off as a loser.

What Stands Between the Public and Mob Rule?

The hour of reckoning is here and either Trump will crush the lawlessness and win the swing voters to his side, or he will listen to the trimmers and lose the country. Trump’s dilemma, however, is real and in some sense unprecedented. We are in uncharted waters when blue-state officials don’t mind the violent chaos in their midst, or at least feel that in a cost-benefit analysis it serves their November purposes more than a restoration of law and order.

Yeah, make Trump force Federal troops into liberal cities to have the slaughter on his hands and no longer keep the reason on the plate for electing a different mayor or governor.

I don’t think so. Stupid people need to learn to clean up their own messes. There are complete mechanisms in place for this.

Trump could also get the military to kill all liberals to make sure he wins in November. It seems Victor believes that is a viable option, as well.

Trump wins in a manner very much like Reagan in 1984.

The testing in place when Donald J Trump was admitted to the Warton School of Business was such that those who were accepted had very high IQs. I have read that Trump’s IQ is about 158 Stanford Binet. That puts him at the middle of the upper one percent. In other words Trump has an IQ higher than 99.5% of the world. So, yes he will know how to campaign to win. He has a keen intellect and even sharper level of street smarts.

I agree that Trump shouldn't send federal troops in to restore order to the Democrat/Left-"controlled" cesspools, but Trump should be uncompromising in honoring his oath to defend the Constitution when tyrannical state politicians and vile bureaucrats inflict un-Constitutional mandates on their citizens, when they assume ultra-Constitutional powers and when they suspend even our unalienable rights ... always for a "good reason", y'know!

I mean, the Constitution is the supreme law and anti-Constitutional politicians cannot be allowed to violate the law (lest we have governors unilaterally impose restrictions on, say, abortion "rights". I bet that would be stopped within hours if they did!)

VDH has a very long track record of not being the excitable type, and of having a very deep understanding of history.
He seems scared lately, and he seems to think it’s time or all could be lost.

There is a fine line of letting them make idiots of themselves, and letting them run wild. At some point in the movie, everyone wants the bully to get punched in the nose.

The more frightening problem is that when he sent the National Guard in, the cops started kneeling, the Generals started saying it was looking like a dictatorship, etc.

The longer nothing is done, the worse this gets.

Nah, Nixon was elected in ‘68, not re-elected in ‘68. That makes it a quite different situation.

If all the chaos of 68 were happening and Nixon had already been President, then it would have been incumbent on him to do something about it, rather than just talk a good game on the campaign trail. That’s the situation that Trump finds himself in.

...Trump will crush the lawlessness and win the swing voters to his side,,,

I don't think VDH has his finger on the pulse of the swing voter.

I'm afraid it's real this time - the sentiment among the middle has swung from law & order to social justice.

Yup. Federal policing of democrat-sponsored violence will not be good for Trump.

Better his ads emphasize the violence is WITH the cooperation of democrats. Ads should SHOW the marching democrat politicians and the accompanying destruction. Conclude with the guarantee that more WILL come with democrat control. Vote like your life and your lifestyle depends on it, because it does.

I agree, the truly alarming thing was the military leaders feeling free to come out and make their own statements to the press completely rejecting Trump’s leadership (without even informing him in advance, it seemed to me).

Obama did massive damage to the military leadership and many of them seem to me to be playing for the other side and would probably flat out reject Trump’s orders.

The problem with Trump, however, is that in opposing this treachery, he blusters and laments, but doesn’t actually do anything even though he would certainly be within his rights to make some “personnel changes.” So his options for action are limited, he looks personally peeved but not very resolute, and I think that’s losing him a lot of support.

I’m hoping this is just a dip and he gets some fighting spirit back.

BTW, one thing he could do is move ahead and really insist on opening up the country again. These riots are the direct result of people being locked up, isolated, and unemployed for three-four months, out of contact with their schools, churches, or even recreational groups. Instead he’s just tolerating the insane lockdown policies of these states which now appear to want to extend this for ever. Give them incentives for reopening and penalties for not doing so. The (in my opinion) non-existent “health emergency” is long over but never have they had so much power...he was the one who declared this and gave them that power, and now he’s got to fix it. And fast!

Reagan had a few simple messages. Trump has a thousand, and eyes glaze over. That is the difference.
Can he win with this sage advice? YES!

The Reagan race was won with just one shattering debate response.

Reagan was asked by a moderator if he was too old to be president.

Reagan grinned and said, "I give my word, I will not exploit for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience."

Even Mondale laughed out loud....and his campaign manager, Bob Beckel, said he just about went into a coma b/c
he knew the race was won right there and then.......with that brilliant Reagan quip.

I dunno. I dont see any relation to ‘84. Everyone in the know, knew Reagan was going to landslide it. I went into a libtarded college course where the prof asked the question as to who would win. I responded that Mondale would get MN and DC and thats all. Everyone thought I was a genius but I knew back then these people were dumbasses.

‘68 had a pandemic, a war (albeit much larger), assassination of a black man (you can argue prominence), the effect the same, with the only thing missing being the assassination of the democratic candidate. Might as well be though considering his mental state.
