So why are the charges "excessive"? The charges are entirely appropriate.

Prosecutions with political optics seams like a bad thing. Defense will argue 1st Ammendent rights even though the acts are clearly against the law.
Hopefully the accused will not walk because it’s political.
You misunderstand. The (common legal) definition of terrorism is the use of violence to obtain political ends.
A political element (by the perpetrator) is necessary to classify as terrorism.
What they need is a good old fashioned whipping in public. Singapore has the right idea with caneing. Whip their @$$es, make them cry, and humiliate them in front of the people they were trying to impress.
Not enough spoiled brats getting their @$$es whipped in this country. *THAT* is the root of the problem.

Never mind. “Red State Nation” is not “Red State.” They appear to be different organizations.
A no-nonsense approach to crime will serve them well. I suspect that there is a good chance that the OK jury will agree and slap these birds in the joint for a very long time.
And that is the time for the DA to start pumping them for info about everything, not in exchange for a sentence reduction, but for even modestly better conditions in prison.
They are politically based because if the defendants were black they would have been racially based.

There is obviously something super natural going on. The forces bent on bringing forth a new world order has put everything on the table in this country. All those who have allegiance to this new order are kneeling in submission.
President Trump has been slow (and maybe rightfully so), to get in front of this as he did with the COVID-19 attack. BLM has taken the lead and has become the voice of this push towards a new world system.
Trump still has an opportunity to regain his footing but he must fully understand what is in store for him. He is being openly opposed by the large corporations in our country along with a large portion of the population.
They will continue their efforts in creating chaos, taking over towns, terrorizing neighborhoods, demoralizing the public, damaging the economy. They are looking to create enough fear and anxiety to cause the American public to have a knew jerk reaction on election day and remove President Trump.
What can President Trump do. First he must get his allies on board with his efforts both domestic and foreign. Bring allies front and center in your efforts ( You have the daughter of MLK, Rev Graham, Bishop Vigano etc.), and strengthen American ties between India and Taiwan sign a security pact. Send them weapons and munitions. Offer the Hispanic community something acceptable in exchange for their support (I am not seeing them on the streets).
He must establish control of the chaos. By arresting all the leaders of these groups. And federalized the guard. People at this time are okay with a bit of violence for security in their neighborhoods (tear gas, stink bombs, rubber bullets are very effective for most). Give the police your support and put out you will pardon any who is unreasonably charged with a federal crime while performing his/her duty.
Bring back a new Corona task force targeted at protecting the health of communities against mass gatherings of protester’s not social distancing.
Become the alternative to the madness in the country. And again I will say again we must usurp the symbolism of kneeling to anarchy with kneeling to God by promoting a period of silence and prayer separate from dishonoring our country.
Label the democrats as racists for policies hurting minorities. Call out the black face democrats and their history of enslavement.
Hit Biden hard, for the man is a walking target of issues many of which people should be ashamed of.
So much opportunity and not enough energy at them moment on the Trump team. Hopefully it is all been for organization on these issues. Too much at stake to sit back and wait for better timing for the time is now.
