With the statue toppling, it's like they want to repeat WW-II, WW-I, Civil War and the Revolution (have they toppled any Korean War/Viet-nam statues?).
Without the history, in the form of statues, books, schooling... no telling we'd be on the same side the next time around.

Heck yes. My daughter is riding the liberal bandwagon on this issue. She even said “that’s a racist thing to say” cause we can’t understand what it’s like...when I was arguing from your same point of view. Then again, she also holds it against me that I have morals that she picked up on as a child which apparently has gotten her mocked by her friends in past and she wishes she, instead of being conflicted, just wouldn’t care, like them. I laugh sometimes because my parents were church people, one of the strictest parents I knew of. They are very lucky she is their grandaughter and not their daughter cause they’d have been in for a world of angst. She’s very strong willed.
Someone here on FR long ago wrote something to this effect: "it would appear that when the slaves looked up from their toils at the white overseer, they weren't thinking of how wonderful it would be to be free, they were thinking of how wonderful it would be to be the overseer."
I agree. I have made the same observation.
One of the things I read earlier on about CHAZ was in their list of demands: black doctors and black nurses to take care of black patients.
WHAT?!! I was truly shocked.
It proves that they are either re-enacting the old stuff, rejecting the civil rights movement, or as a third and I think likely option, they are just plain clueless and have no idea what they are talking about.
We are a lifetime removed from segregation and from the things MLK and others fought against. A lot of these people now weren’t alive then and apparently have very little knowledge of history. I’m over 60 and from the South. I remember segregation.
When I was a child I remember that our doctor’s office had a partitioned-off section in the waiting room and I was told that it was for people who weren’t white. I don’t recall if there were signs up in the office. The doctor and his office staff were all white. All the doctors in my small hometown were white and male.
My late ex-MIL started nursing training back in the late 30’s or thereabouts (she never completed). The hospital where she was doing her training had three wings. One of those was designated for black patients. The white student nurses trained on the other two wings; the black student nurses trained on the other wing. Their classes were separate as well. I suspect that most of the doctors taking care of all patients were white. I never talked to her about what things were really like but I suspect that white patients got priority and probably better equipment, such as it was at that time.
And now THIS is what is being “demanded?” Seriously??

Segregation has been a goal. Dismantle police is meant to have a black police force. Jail reform is to have special laws for black people. BET is tv for blacks only. The Black Congretional caucus is for law that benefits blacks.
Where integrating isn’t imposed by law they segregate, look at ALL prison populations.
They fought for George Wallace to allow blacks in college. That meant they had to study and perform. Screw that. Separate is easier
