Owner of company tells employees it is time to get back to basics. I worked at Boeing as a contractor from 2003 to 2012. Great company that has lost its edge.

Boeing lost - they should get out of the space biz... but the politicans and Boeing’s lobbyists will throw taxpayer money at them to keep jobs.

Have they been tethered to fedgov for so long, they’ve become bloated and ineffective, just like fedgov.

I came out of the specialized management side of the USAF so I was surprised at how slow things could go and still be acceptable to the government.

"Basics" like: Dont build airplanes that pilots cant fly because they crash and kill hundreds of people?

Tick tock, Boeing.

That reminds me of the time AlGore was running for president and he stupidly said that something that was “good enough for government work” meant it was high quality.

Whoever told him that was probably laughing their asses off when they heard him say it on TV.

“Good enough for government work” is a saying used in a lot of government contractor businesses where you can slap any old piece of crap together and sell it to the government at 10 times the price.

They need to bring Joe Patroni out of retirement.

Boeing had a reputation for engineering excellence that has diminished in the last 20 years (still has pockets of excellence).

Boeing has and will continue to produce safe and good quality airplanes. Every aircraft manufacturer has had problems....part of the equation

“Have they been tethered to fedgov for so long, they’ve become bloated and ineffective, just like fedgov”.

Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a winner. This exactly Boeing’s and LM’s problem. I was a consultant for ULA through 2013. I am an Electrical Engineer by schooling but served in the Program Office for the Orion Program. My specific systems area of responsibility was the Launch Abort System. I knew back then that SpaceX would eventually catch up with and then, eventually overtake them. The bureaucracy and the glacial pace with little sense of urgency was astonishing to me. And, of course, there was always an eye open for change orders that would justify soaking Uncle Sam for more money.
When that design and proof of concept was completed I was very happy it was over.

And Boeing recently lost out to SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Dynetics to build the lunar lander.

Yeah, and they had to purposefully fly that one into the ground. Sorry for the unclear semantics.

Referring to government work, my dad used to say “ it doesn’t pay too much but they don’t expect too much”

Of course that was before modern day pay scale and pensions.

The X-37B program appears to be very successful...whatever it's doing up there...
