So when will those junior scientists and critical thinking seekers-after-truth in the press report the fact that overall mortality is down?

OK the CDC data’s only through April, but, still . . . .

There’d have to be a heck of death reporting lag to explain why there’s not been a big whoosh of mortality vs last year. Heck, look at NYC.

What am I missing?

The media touts the Asian, “mask culture” as being wiser and safer than the US carefree way of life, but I remember that in February of last year the Japanese were having a big flu outbreak. I would like to see an analysis of mask usage and I would bet it makes little difference.

Let me do a multiyear government paid for (millions of dollars) study to determine whether Red or Blue States have more disease.

I’ll publish my thousand page report later, but here is the gist of it.... Cities.

Since when is Massachusetts a red state? I think it’s because the governor is a RINO.

If sick people stayed home for 3 days you'd see a huge difference. The problem is, especially millennials never stay home sick, they're out to bars, off to work, couching and sneezing and touching all the while.

Could it be the blue states are overstating Covid numbers?

To verify the claim, I sorted the states into R’s and D’s and then got the average % change for each group.

The R’s averaged a gain of +0.44%

The D’s averaged a gain of +16.60%

The R’s had 12 that were reductions and 14 that were increases.

The D’s had 10 that were reductions and 16 that were increases.

The R’s had fewer states than the D’s that saw reductions (10 verses 12) but also fewer states that saw increases 14 verses 16. In terms of numbers of states that did better, or not, the difference there is not so great.

It is on the percentages of the increases where the D’s made the biggest difference.

I think this data is "Total Deaths" of any cause. Not just COVID.

So what?

I bet LA voted for Trump by a wider margin than your state in 2016, and will do so again. We have all-R congressional representation, with the exception of one House member. Our governor is D, but he’s solidly pro-life — and would not have been elected/re-elected, except that the state GOP nominated some exceptionally weak candidates whom the voters refused to accept.

LA is the reddest of the Red.

It would be interesting to see the first graph with the red ad blue colors allotted by how that state voted for President in 2016. The second chart as well.

Maryland may have a Republican (Trump-hating RINO) governor but the state is deep red. His nickname in some quarters is "Lockdown Larry" and he is one of the current darlings of the propaganda media because of his animosity to PDJT.

I think this is correlation without causation. The party in power didn’t have anything to do with a medical event of 2 month duration.

The reaction and its economic effect will however. It will be interesting to see how Wolf in Pa. will explain his lockdown strategy when Pa. had the biggest reduction in deaths both in percentage and absolute numbers. Covid was a non-event in mortality in Pa.
