I’m not pimping fear, I’m issuing calls to action.
I’m identifying problems and looking for solutions.
“As of today (March 29, 2020) there are 123,828 confirmed cases and 2229 deaths (1.8% death rate) from COVID-19 in the United States. Compare that with the influenza estimates so far this year: 29,000 deaths! And the flu season is not yet over, with the CDC estimating as many as 59,000 will die of influenza by May of this year.”
If we were going to compare that with influenza estimates so far this year, we would also include the flu death rate and the total number of flu cases. The article can’t make a comparison if it doesn’t. Article mentions the death rate from coronavirus (1.8%) and the total number of coronavirus cases but not the flu death rate or total number of flu cases, only total number. Also, based on today’s count of the number of people in the USA who have or had coronavirus (323,516) and the total number of deaths so far (9171) the fatality rate is 2.83% not 1.8%. The death rate could end up being greater than 2.83% because deaths are a lagging indicator with the kind of daily case expansion we are seeing. Still, I’ll use 1.8%.
The flu death rate for the 2019 - 2020 flu season is 0.073% - 0.115% with between 33,000,000 and 55,000,000 million cases. So coronavirus - 1.8% fatality rate and flu 0.073% - 0.115% fatality rate this season. So coronavirus has a fatality rate 24.66 to 15.65 times greater. Of course there are some coronavirus cases not counted but it’s still quite a bit higher than the flu fatality rate. Flu doesn’t collapse hospital systems, there’s effective treatments for it, and many fewer people as a percentage are hospitalized for it than flu. Every country that tried to treat it as business as usual or pursue herd immunity had to backtrack when their hospital systems started getting stressed. We can of course look at the total number of deaths between the two but for the flu that was before social distancing and with coronavirus it’s after social distancing. It’s still a big deal.
The Chinese coronavirus is a real menace and we have the Chinese to thank for this global disaster. They hid it’s origin (likely a worker who got infected from a bite or handling fluids), hid how serious it was, hid the overall case rate and underestimated fatalities, and are using it as an opportunity to try to gain more influence in the world. I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to take Taiwan too one of the reasons why that carrier captain was fired. They need to be blamed for it.
I remember early on I was getting worried about it because they shut in 60 million people with a draconian quarantine. No country, Chinese or otherwise, does that unless the threat is extremely serious. If we are going to look at who benefited from this, it’s the Chinese.
That is what everyone forgets when the media focuses only on the death rate
You have to compare the death rate to total resolved cases(dead plus recovered) to get the running mortality rate...the ongoing cases haven’t been resolved yet so we don’t know what the death rate for those who actually get the disease is. World wide the death rate vs (recovered + the dead)=21 percent dead vs 79 percent recovered...and that is with China’s suspect numbers.(https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/) There are some 920 thousand active cases left to resolve either dead or alive. One hopes eventually that the “recovered case” percentiles will outstrip the “death case” percentiles.
The good news is that about 80 to 90 percent, in the US, who, being tested are coming back negative even though there are some false negatives that may turn positive later. Some may have already had the disease but antibody studies will only show that later. So vast swaths of populace may never get the disease or get it mildly or will have had an asymptomatic case.
That is the question then for the government to face....when to turn the country back on...(?)
I don’t know how I did it but I survived the 2017-18 epidemic which was 5 times worse than the swine flu......
Some have lasting effects, lung issues, etc, and the rest die.
Just like the flu.
Let's try honesty in advertising. First, you are pimping a blog. And to pimp your blog you are relying on a publication by an deepster lobbying organization, The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons.
This is not a scientific publication. It's a blurb by a professional association advocating the interests of its members.
Nothing against them - just truth in advertising.
Does not match the media narrative of fear and dread
Does not match the Fauxi narrative
meanwhile, we’ve let the politicians destroy our supposedly-protected-and-cherished Divinely-bestowed liberties....
....... and our economy, businesses, jobs, savings, investments, and to a considerable degree, our lives
SNAFU!
“Americans seem to trust the mainstream media more than these renowned doctors!”
I don’t trust the media, or frankly anyone at this point in this pandemic - because NO ONE is an expert on Covid, and NO ONE has ever dealt with a coronavirus pandemic. That said, Martin Dubravec is not a ‘renowned doctor’, but that matters little, as ‘renowned’ doesn’t mean good - or even competent. There are plenty of hacks who are self-promoting and get their names out there. Most people don’t go into medicine to become ‘renowned’, and lots of physicians mistrust or look askance at those physicians who concentrate on celebrity. Some are probably great docs, but not because they are ‘renowned’.
Dubravec wrote a credible commentary, but he, like the rest of us, have a limited data set to rely on and to base conclusions on. Undoubtedly, most people do survive and have mild symptoms. That said, enough are getting seriously ill such that it is putting a very significant strain on our hospital capacity - and overwhelming some. Don’t panic, but don’t underestimate.

Except — this Novel Coronavirus is MUCH MORE CONTAGIOUS than the flu and with the 2% number, several times more deadly.
Add the flu to Covid-19 and this isn’t really news to be happy about.
According to the John Hopkins University Chinese Wuhan Flu Death Tracker, The USA, as of 3 minutes ago, has 321,762 confirmed cases and 9,132 deaths. The author of the article needs to reassess his hypothesis and check his math.
Who pays you to scare everyone?
The southern part, like Camden and Chidester. Trees, lakes, laid back. I live in DFW and its becoming nerve wracking as I get older.
“”””Wait until May comes and the weather gets really warm. It will be the death of this horrific virus.””””””””””
Florida is warm now. Are there any coronavirus cases there?
Texas isn’t.. just a couple of Democrat run cities.
If presumed positives are included in the death stats, I think the deaths stats are worthless.
Meaning the rest of the country will get warmer besides Florida.
Plus by that time the warmer weather will cover a vast majority of the country.
So Florida and the other warm places around the world dont have any coronavirus cases?
