Elizabeth Warren wasn’t trying to be the first female president.
She wanted to be president. She wanted to cut banks down to size and relieve student debt. Root out the corrupt influence of money in politics and go after monopolies.
Warren didn’t focus on how she’d be breaking a glass ceiling. She didn’t shy away from her gender, but when she talked about feminism, it was most often centered on female organizers and the movements they’ve led throughout history.
But Warren couldn’t just run for president. At every step of the campaign, she was reminded that people still saw her as a female candidate, with all the baggage that comes with that designation ― questions about her toughness, likability and relatability.

She lost because her policies simply made no economic sense. There are monopolies in the US because the exhibit huge economies of scale...and they are regulated. If you disagree about other company’s market share, there are laws on the books to see redress. Taxing wealth? REALLY stupid, as you need capital formation for the system to growth a provide job opportunities. Finally, she seems to assume that she can spend our money better than we can. Simply not true, which is why I’m anti-big gov’t in the first place.
If you make being a female an issue, as Warren did, you will be the “female candidate.”

The author makes a very good point. American society is still sexist. That’s why Sarah Palin didn’t get on the GOP ticket in 2008, and why Hillary Clinton didn’t win the Democrat nomination in 2016.
