The DEA’s National License Plate Reader Network Expands To Smaller Cities

Last week, the Herald Publication in Mascoutah, Illinois revealed that the City of Fairview Heights entered into an agreement with the IDOT to install automatic license plate readers (ALPR) on highway trusses to allegedly “prevent, deter and solve crimes.” Which is typical government doublespeak to explain away Big Brother tracking innocent motorists.

Taken at face value, Fairview Heights reasons for tracking everyone is nothing new, they use the same cookie-cutter excuses that law enforcement across the country have been using.

But what really caught my eye was the “other resolution approved by the council.”

The other resolution calls for the city to belong to the DEA’s National License Plate Reader Network (NLPRN).

“The other resolution approved by the council calls for the city to belong to the National License Plate Reader Network which is administered by the DEA. The agreement with the DEA allows Fairview Heights Police to both input data into the national system and retrieve data from it along with establishing the processes for the sharing and use of such information.”

I watched a pound of heroin I presume being exchanged between people at a Kearney, NE gas station, and I have my serious doubts that the DEA even attempts to impede Mexican cartels these days. So yeah just spyware against the Deplorables.

They should be made to ignore any plate that they don't have a warrant to look for.

That said, now it's how they bill you for all the toll roads that you travel. No more toll plazas.

...

I would say they already ignore 99.9999% of the readings. The information is only there if they need it, and it’s 100% constitutional.

"I would say they already ignore 99.9999% of the readings. The information is only there if they need it, and it’s 100% constitutional. "

No sir it most certainly is NOT constitutional. When machines create a database with records specific to my personal vehicle and thus me personally that information becomes "my papers and effects" and those SHALL not be searched or violated without a warrant.

Another issue we had better wake up to is this notion that for some reason we are forced to have our license number openly displayed. There is simply NO VALID REASON to display a unique number that is directly linked to information that should be private. Your license tag number should only be made available upon a valid request from the police and the only thing on your bumper should be a sticker of some sort indicating the vehicle is legally licensed.

So many even on Freerepublic are total brainwashed subjects and they don't even realize it.

Want one more? No driving is NOT a priviledge. It is a right. This again is propaganda taught at a very early age for most freepers and unfortunately most people believe this. The founders would have laughed at such a notion then slapped you if you didn't wake up from your delusion.

Back in the 1960s, we were taught that one of the marks of totalitarianism in the Soviet Union was the tracking of travelers on the highways going from town to town.

Now in the US courtesy of the Bush regimes and their progeny the Clinton - Obama juntas.

Isn’t there some kind of substance that can be applied to your license plate that prevents these cameras from seeing/reading the plate? Someone should invent it, if not.

But, but, we can trust OUR government.

I'm sure you would say that. I'm less sure you would present any evidence.

Not sure about the legalities in any specific area, nor claiming the effectiveness of either, but here's a few examples:

License Plate Blocker Spray

These things have been around for awhile: License Plate Anti Speed Camera & Red-Light Traffic Camera PhotoBlocker

Of course. Because there is no historical data on governments suppressing their people. /s

It’s been there the entire time. They are just letting the public know about it.

DEA my rear end, this is big government surveillance. These scanners cover over half the country and most major interstates.

Most states that deploy ALPRs also pass legislation prohibiting the obscuring of license plates in any way...including these photo blocker sprays which in essence increases reflectivity and in some cases emissivity of the license plate/image, effectively washing out/blind the ALPR
