Trump Is Quietly Winning Bigly At The Border
Issues & Insights ^ | 1/6/2020 | The Editorial Board

Last week, 18 people crossed the border illegally into Arizona hoping they could exploit a loophole in U.S. asylum policy to stay in the country. Instead, they found themselves shipped back to Mexico while their asylum claims are reviewed.

In the midst of impeachment mania and the killing of an Iranian general, this event captured little attention. But it’s part of a broader campaign that the Trump administration has quietly embarked upon to crack down on illegal border crossings. And – even without the wall – these policies are having a huge impact.

The 18 migrants were sent back to Mexico thanks to a policy President Donald Trump implemented that goes by the official name of “Migrant Protection Protocols” (MPP), but more colloquially known as “Remain in Mexico.” First adopted a year ago, the administration has been working with Mexico to steadily expand it. The Nogales port of entry south of Tucson, Arizona, where the 18 were sent, is the site seventh to be included.

Before this policy went into effect, illegal immigrant families knew that if they crossed the border and claimed asylum, they’d effectively get a free pass. Immigration officials would release them into the U.S. within 20 days, on the promise that they would show up for their court date months in the future. Few bother to return. This policy was dubbed “Catch and Release” for a reason.

Now, they must wait in Mexico while immigration judges review their cases.

What “Remain in Mexico” revealed is how few asylum seekers have legitimate claims. In fact, judges granted asylum in less than 1% of the more than 10,000 MPP claims resolved so far, according to TRAC Research Center at Syracuse University.

Excellent.

While the house DemocRATs are busy making a lot of noise and trying to usurp the powers of the presidency, the President is quietly implementing his agenda.

A wall cannot substitute for well-crafted changes in immigration law.

Trump is just the master of getting people to box themselves into a corner. Mexico is going to get fed up with having illegals entering their country and they’ll clamp down tighter on their southern border. That and holding off any aid and trade with them. Once that starts hitting Mexicans in the pocket book, as it has already, there won’t be anybody crossing their southern border.

Granting 1% entry is still 1% too much. There are zero (0) legitimate asylum claims on the Mexican border.

98% of the problems at the southern border are the fault of ex-speaker ryan, the locker room pal of anthony weiner.

When the pubbies had control of the house, ryan killed off any attempts to change immigration law, and lied to Trump about his efforts to effect change.

More than any single congress critter, ryan was more effective than nancy peeloser at countering Trump.

I really hate what this guy did to our country.

Not to mention illegals aren’t going to want to wait around for long periods of time in a place that’s worse or no better than where they came from.

I’m beyond fed up with lazy, shiftless Mexicans and Central a and South Americans ruining their own countries, largely through voting socialists or shooting their way into socialist police states and then when it all screws up they say, “Oh well, we’ll just go to America and demand they let us in’’. I HATE these people. The American taxpayer doesn’t exist for the benefit of of Mexico or the rest of Latin America. For that matter I’m sick of people from anywhere in the world thinking “I’m going to America for a better life’’’ and yet in the same breath they’ll call us ‘’racists’’ and tell us we’re idiots for electing Trump.

Yeah, Mexico cannot wait until PDJT leaves so that things can go back to normal with open borders.

Ryan and Romney, the best friend the Koch Brothers(-1) every had. Getting rid of Ryan is one of the best things Trump accomplished.

What is Ann Coulter dogging Trump about now? I noticed she has STFU about the border. There was a time when I really admired her. She could regain some of her credibility if she’d just apologize to Trump about not understanding what he was doing and for being so wrong about his border policy.

She is like so many people now, on the Left and even the Right. There is no patience to understand things that are taking place, just instant and extreme knee jerk reactions and absolutism

Ann Coulter apologize? Never will happen. The ego is far too strong with this one. She was always a con artist, kind of more modern George Will. Then, the Trump era when the new, true blue conservative journalists and commentators emerged, Coulter could no longer operate like she used to.

So like her friend, Drudge, she’s become a highly paid Benedict Arnold.

The people in Northern Mexico aren't fond of them either. Our company opened a plant in Tijuana which can't hire people fast enough thanks to the Trump economy and Mexico deal. Even the so-called Central American "refugees" are welcome to work there. There are these basic requirements: (1)willing and able to work, (2)8th grade education or equivalent, (3)pass a drug test.

There are nearly zero applicants from this group. Why do you suppose that is?

It’s all about attitude. Some can sit around in Central America and say “there is no hope”. Send some US folks down there and we say “have you thought about building a canal, would make you lots of money”. Anyhow.... :)

Let’s hope Pres. Trump puts the full package out there. This should be part of a Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement bill, missing since 1987 ONE TIME amnesty. The List of Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, missing since 1987 goes like this -

1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 10-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (40 years to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population);
7) Set up an illegal aliens’ victim restitution fund.

Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to SELF-deport, and remove colonizadors from our welfare rolls.
