By her excitement and choice of words, one could easily think failing-CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell was promoting a pay-per-view boxing or pro-wrestling match during Wednesday’s newscast. But no, she was hyping the televised impeachment hearings that would start next week. In addition to that, NBC Nightly News chided Republicans were wanted the public to know the identity of the infamous anti-Trump whistleblower who helped to start the investigation.
“Tonight, lights, cameras, testimony. The stage is set for the first televised hearings of the impeachment inquiry,” O’Donnell excitedly proclaimed during the program’s opening tease. “We now know when they will happen and who may be the Democrats’ star witness.”
Once they were finished with the teases, O’Donnell could barely contain her glee as she sprinted to call them “historic,” adding, “televised impeachment hearings begin a week from today, and it promises to be must-see TV.”
“It promises to be must-see TV,” really?! She was acting more like a fight promoter for a UFC match than a journalist. She even touted the combatants for the Democrats:
The Democrats plan the start with their star witness: a west point grad with 50 years of public service, acting U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bill Taylor will testify Wednesday alongside Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent. Then on Friday, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch will testify.
Later in the segment, chief congressional correspondent Nancy Cordes pooh-poohed House Republicans for insisting the public listen to the special envoy to Ukraine, Ambassador Kurt Volker, who says there was no “quid-pro-quo.”

In this case, it’s not actual blood, but as you say, a figurative blood sport.
To their defense, but only a little bit, they’d be all over this if it was a democrat president, just like they were with Clinton. However, that’s the only similarity. Almost everything else about the actual coverage would be different, including rolling in tons of experts to hem and haw about what a travesty of justice this is and how bad it is for our country.
The media is not only perfectly happy to exploit anything that brings in the viewers, like PT Barnum, but they are also very very willing to continue to divide this country farther and farther.
You can blame the polticians all you want, and even outside interference from forign billionaires, but it’s obvious to me that the media and so-called press, in this country feed off of the division that THEY CREATE
TV/Cable news is a dying media. Like all old technologies, especially for public use, it has become a concentrated swamp of crony-capitalists, and monopolists, playing off complex government rules and political interests.
It is under threat from the upstart - the internet. In terms of content, TV/Cable news can’t compete. It covers stories for 1 minute, maybe 2 or 3 minutes maximum if the story is very important. What sort of content can be conveyed in that short time? Very little - only slogans. It must also intersperse many commercials. its format can not change. Its operation is very expensive. Thus, it has become a controlled, political, monopolist swamp.
The internet, podcasts, live-streaming, or whatever, has NONE of those limitations. Information (news) can come from anyone, anywhere. Its searchable. Its unlimited in format or length. Its basically free.
I’ve simply given up on TV news. Its a joke.
I wonder is the enemedia will be hyping democrats’ criminal trials?
