Political correctness is certainly not the name of the game in these classic pieces of gun marketing. It was just plain old fashion wild wild west advertising back in the day.
Is that guy teaching his son how to hunt?
Where are their iphones, video games and couch? Well, buddy, this is how a father is supposed to raise his son to be a man, not a bump on the couch of life.
The iconic Red Ryder BB Gun is the first gun for many of us. I still have mine!
Boys armed with realistic toy guns? Yes, we had them, and never did we ever think to point one at a police officer.
This armed Santa Claus has a sleighload of Stevens firearms.
A kid's first BB Gun was the first step of many to becoming an adult. The responsibility taught will last a lifetime.
Oh no, that kid has a toy fully automatic M-16 rifle! See the rest of vintage gun ad.
My grandad told me stories of when he was in HS going there on the school bus on target shooting day with his rifle between his knees, no cover, couldn’t afford one. Walked down the corridor to his locker, put it in and after school with the rest of the team went to the gun range in the basement. School took top honors in shooting.
You can thank the anti-military attitude from the Vietnam War era for this, along with the murder of Bobby Kennedy back in 1968, and the anti-gun hysteria that followed.
After this there was a concerted effort by TV, news media and other sources to emasculate boys and make them more “feminine”.
Movies got a pass as they said they would “police themselves” with a joke of a ratings system.
Once they got the OK, they then reshot scenes to add more sex, violence, blood and guts to get the coveted “R” rating.
The effort to turn boys into girls still goes on.
When I was 14 (not THAT long ago), I could walk all over town carrying a .22 rifle. Nobody freaked out, if a cop drove by he’d just wave, and I’d wave back.
Urban Detroit area... Gun range in High School basement... Had to qualify/pass to get hunting license at age 12.. 1970s...
I had the M16 Marauder. It...was... AWESOME!! (I even looked and dressed like the dorky kid holding it.)
Careful there girl! You could put an eye out with that thing.
Sad how things have changed due to PC.
But Bobby Kennedy was murdered by a Palestinian terrorist.
Details.
I lettered 3 years on my NJROTC rifle team in HS in the mid-80s. We shot at the National Guard across the street from the HS in the county seat (20 min drive for me) in SW Indiana. I kinda saw things coming...athletic director was pissed when he had to give me my free varsity jacket for getting 6 letters. I had to remind him that the IHSAA recognized my letters even if he didn’t. Boy was my chief (retired NJROTC instructor) ticked off when I told him about that conversation.
Don’t know if IHSAA still recognizes the sport or if the NJROTC team there still shoots.
True. But it unleashed the anti-gun forces that had been building since the murder of John Kennedy by a communist.
Back in the early 1900s, when my great grandaddy was just a boy, he bought a box of Crackerjacks. Crackerjacks always had a prize inside the box. His prize was a little Winchester 22-02 single-shot rifle. He filled out the paper that was enclosed inside the box, mailed it in, and a few weeks later, the rifle showed up in the mail. That little rifle is still in our family to this day.
