SPRINGFIELD — CRRC MA, the Chinese-owned rail car manufacturer with a $95 million factory in East Springfield, is hiring to fulfill an order for double-decker commuter rail cars placed by SEPTA, the Philadelphia-area transit network.

CRRC is hosting a job fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to hire 20 to 30 mechanical assemblers, electrical assemblers and test technicians, said spokeswoman Lydia Rivera.

The jobs pay about $18 an hour, Rivera said. The plant, at 655 Page Boulevard, already has 184 employees, with 122 of them union production workers. "This is just the beginning," Rivera said. "We'll continue to hire."

More information is available at an Eventbrite page for the hiring fair.

In 2017 the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority ordered 45 double-decker rail cars from CRRC at a cost of $137.5 million. Today, the cost is up slightly to $138 million. SEPTA has an option to purchase 10 more cars.

SEPTA is by far the most incompetent organization I have ever had the displeasure to work with.
Retarded people throwing dice would have a better outcome.

The rail car manufacturer is hiring, not SEPTA.

If: Massachusetts
Then: Corrupt

This is a prime axiom, never found incorrect, and with a 99.9999999999% probability of always being found correct.

I know. Just reading “SEPTA” makes me angry.
I needed to vent.

For any outside the area, please note that Springfield, MA is a very dangerous city—one of the worst slums in the country.

That’s a stupid assertion for a private company.

The MTBA decided to have their cars made in Korea and transported here. The factory is literally 200 yards from a piece of rail that goes directly to Boston.

Those of us in Western MA are not surprised that those in Boston think Korea is closer than Springfield.

Not sure why you would post that. It’s no more dangerous than Hartford or New Haven. Certainly not much worse than Worcester.

Springfield is a crossroads of North/South from Canada to NYC; East /West highways Ross at Springfield as well. If something is “trafficked” in the Northeast, it comes and goes through Springfield.

This has been true since people started walking in North America.

The jobs pay about $18 an hour, Rivera said.

For a manufacturing job that would have been a decent starting wage... about 40 years ago. Thanks China!

That is true. People from out of town need to be _very_ careful wandering around in those cities as well.
