André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu (born 1 October 1949) is a Dutch violinist and conductor best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra. He and his orchestra have turned classical and waltz music into a worldwide concert touring act, as successful as some of the biggest global pop and rock music acts. He resides in his native Maastricht.

Andre and his Orchestra are too fantastic for words. Together they restore my faith in humanity.

Thanks for this! I visited Maastricht in early September and a local friend was a great walking-tour guide. What a fantastic town, and when I was there the Main Street had plenty American flags - they were celebrating the 75th anniversary of the town’s liberation by the American troops.

Saw them in Vegas in 2017. One of my bucket list items. The most memorable concert I've ever attended. Several times I couldn't hold back tears of joy as his music has a way of bringing out people's emotions.

Btw, if you've never seen the Village People in a Tux, watch the concert linked above! :-)

You definitely should visit. In fact, I visited that big open square and the two churches beside it, and stopped for coffee in a museum café on the square’s edge. My father’s ancestors left the Netherlands for New Amsterdam so it was a treat to be in their country for the first time — plus it was fascinating to visit churches from the 1100’s and to walk atop medieval town walls. I’m used to the UK but this was on a completely different experience, what with the language difference.

Would love to! My father's ancestors left England twelve generations ago, landing with the Pilgrims after having migrated previously from Nordic countries. You couldn't tell it by looking at me, as my maternal great, great grandmother's Cherokee blood dominates my outward features - and probably lends to my craziness, at times.

But somewhere, way back, I bet we share a common DNA strand. ;-)

I love his music. He will be touring America but none of his stops are close to my location.

It is nice to see that I am not the only Amira fan on Free Republic. There are at least 2 of us.

I have been listening to this girl sing for at least 4 years and feel certain that she is a future star in the music business. What she has already accomplished at such a young age is simply amazing.

The voice of an angel.

He is scheduled to be back in Vegas on March 20th, at the T-Mobile Arena, but that particular concert is practically sold out already - I hear.

Some of my favorites:

André Rieu - Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)

André Rieu & John Sheahan - Irish Washerwomen

Victory - Andre Rieu & BOND

And many, many more. TOO many to list, actually. :-)

I usually can’t stand opera. But Amira is so amazing. I watch her youtubes all the time.
