German motorhome manufacturer Hymer introduced a concept named Galileo that argues autonomous technology will make motels obsolete in a distant future. The boxy, glass-walled design study drives itself so its occupants can enjoy the view without needing to keep an eye on the road ahead, and get a full night's sleep without stopping when they're ready to call it a day.
From the outside, Hymer's Galileo looks a lot like the dozens of box-shaped concept shuttles we've seen at major auto and tech shows in recent years. It has the proportions of a toaster oven, sliding side doors, and wheels pushed as far out as possible. It's very city bus-like, in other words. This configuration makes even more sense here than it does in urban-dwelling robo-taxis, because it allowed designers to create a generously-sized living space within a relatively small footprint.
The Galileo concept rides on a skateboard chassis that integrates the battery pack, the electric motors, electronic components, and structural parts. Hymer explained this configuration allows it to build a wide range of motorhomes on one basic platform. The chassis can accommodate a two-person luxury loft on wheels, or a family-friendly snow chalet with bunk beds — at least theoretically. It's still a concept at this stage, and one that exists solely in computer-generated images. That's why its maximum driving range and other technical specifications haven't been released yet.

I saw an interesting motor home today. It was headed South on U.S. 331 near DeFuniak Springs. It was medium sized, maybe even a bit on the small side.
It was a Mercedes but also said “Airstream” on the front. Fairly tall too. I would love to have owned it.
As expensive as conventional motorhomes are, what is this going to cost/You can put it in job search mode and it will take you to the highest paid job.
Interesting, saw one in Rapid City just this week. There was a driver in the drivers seat.
Do the “occupants” have to stay sober while this new wonder technology drives them around?
I’ve often wondered about this angle with conventional campers, toppers, motor homes, or heck even tents at the old Campground. Many people (apparently) have been cited for DUI when sleeping it off in the back seat of their car. So the precedent is there. It seems to me it’s kind of a gray area, and would NOT be popular, but the fact remains people get drunk in campgrounds.

As some one that lives in a motorhome six months out of the year during the fair season...what a joke...and of course absolutely no real storage space. Yeah..kinda cool if you want to go day tripping...other than that...No way.
I can see a TV realty show “ How Fast Can You Go Across the Country & Run Over the Fewest Pedestrians!”.
A lot of people at the local VFW here have those things.
I think that there would be a far bigger market for a company making a “motorhome of the future” from a company who instead envisioned a future where their products almost never needed repairs.
I always wanted a motor home but never could afford one.
For several years I had an extended van camper. It had a nice bed in the rear and was quite comfortable but in the end it was just too small.
I believe that was it. It was about the color of a UPS truck, maybe a little darker..

Self driving cars will render the model industry obsolete. I’ll be happy to just sit in a Tesla overnight for a 1000 mile drive, no need for a whole hotel room on wheels.

It used to be that the keys had to be in the ignition for you to be considered “in control” whether your stopped or not. So if you pull over, take the keys out and put them on the inside of the front driver’s side wheel.
My best friend when I was in my 20’s was a cop and told me that. Saved me from getting a DUI in Philadelphia one night.
