That looks like Michael J. Pollard in the background. He hadn’t changed a bit - looks exactly the same as he did in Bonnie and Clyde (the 1st time I ever saw him.)Well, you missed lovely Kim Darby of "True Grit" fame as Michael J. Pollard's coming of age love intrest right there in front of him.
As a side note: apparently MJP was 27 years old when cast here as a coming of age adolescent.

Yes, “selective mutism” is an anxiety disorder, usually based on social anxiety but it could be caused by other things as well. She is naturally predisposed to irrational fear. That’s probably why the climate hoax appeals to her.

She’s already professionally diagnosed as mentally ill. Per her mother’s book, she was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety and autism/Asperger before the age of 10. Reinforcing the diagnosis is the fact that her non-famous sister has been diagnosed with Aspbergers and attention deficit disorder.
