Immigrants afraid of Trump’s ‘public charge’ rule are dropping food stamps, MediCal
Cal Matters ^ | September 22, 2019 | Erica Hellerstein

Last month, Yuri sat in her dining room in San Jose, turned on the T.V., and heard something that made her sit up straight and sent her mind racing.

The Trump administration, the newscaster announced, had just published a new rule that could make it harder for immigrants to get a green card if they used, or were likely to use, public government benefits like food stamps or Medicaid.

Yuri, who came to the United States from Michoacán, Mexico, was enrolled in CalFresh, California’s food stamp program, for her 7 children, who range in age from just over a month to 15 and who all were born in this country. But with the new rule, Yuri, wondered, would staying on food stamps imperil her asylum application or get her deported? Would she and her family have to move back to Michoacán, one of the Mexican states with the worst cartel violence?

She decided to terminate food stamps for her kids and to dis-enroll herself from MediCal, despite some health complications she said accompanied her latest pregnancy. She worries, she said, about how she will keep her children’s bellies full without food stamps. But she doesn’t want the use of social service programs to put her at risk for deportation somehow.

Of course, no mention of where is/are the father(s) of this Mexican immigrant’s seven, count ‘em seven, children.

I’ve been supporting myself since I was 17, and have not taken a dime of unemployment or other public assistance. Yet along with millions of other American citizens, we’re expected to provide comprehensive welfare benefits to these waves illegal and legal aliens. Bullsh*t. I’m glad to see the Feds cracking down under PDJT.

Remittances to Mexico should be taxed
to pay for these parasites.

Would she and her family have to move back to Michoacán, one of the Mexican states with the worst cartel violence?

There is more than one state in Mexico. She doesn't need to come to the USA...simply move to another state in Mexico.

BTW, what does her husband have to say about all this? Why isn't he feeding the kids?

Seven friggin’ kids, all born in the U.S., supported by the U.S. taxpayer, and no mention of their father(s).

This woman is the poster child for why we need a wall, an aggressive deportation program, and why we need to shut down these phony asylum scams.

Get that f**** out of here? Maybe not, literally?

However, it should be pointed out she’s been here at least 15 years working on an asylum claim?

I point out, 15 years, as she has a 15 year old which was born in this country. It doesn’t seem probable that her asylum claim has gone on that many years, if not more.

no effing way

She has been able to afford to have 7 children, in which it appears we are just writing checks for her to continue pumping out babies?

It has never occurred to her to get a job to support her family?

To be fair, if you had ever taken a dime of unemployment, you did pay for that, at least

These grifters have never put a dime into the system or the American economy and should not be justified in taking any monies from the American tax payer...

Individuals with an immigration court case who were ultimately granted relief—such as asylum—by March 2018 waited more than 1,000 days on average for that outcome.

https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/research/asylum-united-states

In 2018 asylum was granted to a little more than 26,000 families and individuals

Just how many legitimate asylum seekers are there in the United States?

Why am I supposed to care about this woman’s peril? She isn’t my tax paying ass’ problem. Move back to Mexico and he problem will be solved.

You’d think she could open up a tamale stand or something rather than rely on us.

Leftists should be okay with this. They love Norway when it comes to Socialism.

You have to show an annual income of $47,000 a year or greater to immigrate to Norway.

Why import poor people who can’t make ends meet? Or who work in a cash transaction area and wire their income back HOME and leech of the US taxpayers for their living expenses?

I knew a lady from Mexico, who did exactly that, about 10 years ago. Last time I saw her, she was driving a really nice late model BMW. Some of them make it.

Beginning with the first immigration rules, you could come in as long as you were healthy and not going to be dependant upon the state. So this is not new....it is old law.

If you read the story carefully you will come to the conclusion that this family is most likely in our country illegally.
