Striking a Pose

Donald Trump’s economy is booming. So the UAW decided to call a nationwide strike against GM.

Randolph Walker cheers on motorist as they blow their horns in support of the strike at GM's Powertrain Plant in Warren in 2007.

They’re demanding the same things they’ve been demanding for as long as I can remember: higher wages, better pension, better job security, better healthcare (what’s wrong with Obamacare?!), and better profit sharing.

The Dems will all be onboard, since they always side with the ‘little guy.’ In this case the little guys who build cars for a living - the same cars the Dems’ Green New Deal wants you not to buy, not to  drive and when elected they plan to outlaw, along with planes and cows.

So giddy up, cowboys.

You’re gonna need a lot more horsepower.

The cognitive dissonance is striking. Cars should be illegal, and the people who build cars should be paid better. Huh?

I had 5 GM vehicles in a row until obama gave the bailout and I put an end to my gm purchases. I have had 2 import vehicles since and the quality of the imports is superior IMO....and it’s not even a close call.

“I have had 2 import vehicles...”

They may display badges that are not one of the Big 3 but it’s highly unlikely the vehicles were actually imported as assembled vehicles. Since you weren’t specific in your response, my response is also generic as there are still some models that are imported from Japan.

Toyota and BMW. The fit, form and function on both are excellent. IMO it’s not as much about where they were built but more about quality control and how the people that built them were trained. IIRC Toyota and BMW are non union companies.

In my Mid Michigan neighborhood there are many democrat type union workers that sneer at me for buying Japanese cars. I prefer the cars for their reliability over US Union made cars. I tell them I’ll think about buying their cars when the unions support a Republican.

The NPR drivel yesterday was astonishing. They are hard core socialists being financed by our tax money.

My first car was a Chevy Vega and I have never bought a GM vehicle since.

When my car was being repaired after an accident, I drove an American minivan and was appalled that they had learned nothing from their foreign competitors. The car was cramped and just poorly designed. I could not believe it. If I was an American designer, I would examine the competition, learn from their design and do it better.

“...more about quality control and how the people that built them were trained.”

Exactly on point from my experience, too. 1 Toyota Corolla and 1 Nissan XTerra at my house, along with one Ford Expedition for towing the RV trailer.

Seem to recall that the union actually owns a sizable part of GM (part of the terms of the Obama bailout). Does that mean they are on strike against themselves?

Starting to see a pattern here - oil tankers being attacked and taken, refineries blown up - the energy sector is under attack. Now a major US employer is on strike.

One might suspect an attempt to crash the US economy. Now why would anyone want to do that?

Old Galaxy police model

Still remember the rusted out floorboard you had to straddle so’s your feet didn’t touch the pavement.

Talk about giddy up.

I had switched to Toyota from American made autos in the late 70’s and never looked back. Since then I have either leased or owned, Camry’s, Rav4’s. Currently own a Matrix and will keep it as long as it will have me!

GM employees; still trying to bankrupt their employer. No wonder GM is moving overseas. Employees don’t have a clue. I had two uncles that worked for Ford. You couldn’t find two bigger frauds if you tried. Both went out on supposed disabilities well before age 65. My father disgusted with his brothers. My father worked until he was 75.
