What a stupid thing to write. It was his damn money to waste however he wanted. There is no right to an inheritance.

In "North by Northwest" the character played by Cary Grant is forced to consume a lot of alcohol by the bad guys and then put behind the wheel of a car. He's arrested for drunk driving. The next day in court he wants to fight it out of a sense of his own innocence.

His mother tells him, "Roger, pay the two dollars."

That was a take-off on a much older play (I forget its title) where a man gets into a long battle over paying a $2 fine.
