Again I ask: What is wrong with tariffs? They worked for the primary funding of the Federal Government until 100 years ago... before government grew too big for its britches and passed the 16th Amendment. A tariff that raises SOME consumer prices by a few percent is somehow more evil than excising 20-40+% of a worker’s wages?

Wow, wouldn’t that be something?!?! Mind you, I won’t be holding my breath, but just imagine . . . the USSR fell under Pres. Reagan, then Red China falls under Pres. Trump. It’s a longshot, but wouldn’t it be a blessing? Especially for the long-suffering Chinese people.

And you’re confused.

The First Amendment protects We the People from the feds’ (”Congress” if you actually read it) abridging your God-given rights and freedoms as spelled out in the amendment itself with backup from the persuasive sister document, the Declaration of Independence.

The feds have no constitutional authority over child porn which is a states’ and individual issue, just like schools and abortion. States’ sovereign power is very effective. As an example, abortion was under control by state anti-abortion laws until the feds assumed unconstitutional power over abortion, and that’s when the infanticide started. The feds are NOT your friend, nor the friend of children or the unborn.

You cheer when the unconstitutional totalitarian power the feds have assumed seems to for you. But sooner than later, you’ll find that abandonment of the Constitution as written and originally understood and intended, will work against you and your welfare big time. Rots a ruck.

“things will soon start to change very noticeably, not only in trade, but in other areas also.”

Since the bent one gave them every last detail of our ICBM and nuclear weapon technology thirty years ago, that seems likely.

We get by with what we have, too. It’s rare we purchase much other than food. 1) We don’t NEED it (we’ve outgrown WANTS) and 2) the budget doesn’t allow it.

Light bulbs are mismatched because I like the old incandescent and hubby wants the ones that make the house look like a warehouse. The last lamp bought was with green stamps a lifetime ago. Soap on the bathroom sink are the bits leftover from the shower. I’d give guests a new bar of soap but outside of fresh sheets and cleaning the house, if they don’t like it, they don’t have to stay.

As others posted, buy second hand. Second hand lasts longer than cr@p made new stuff and the money stays local. As soon as we get out of 3 digit temperatures, I’ll get back to refinishing 2 second hand free tables. I’m sitting at a $35 garage sale refinished solid maple desk. Those fresh sheets would go in a refinished art deco bedroom which is across from a refinished solid walnut Charles Eastlake bedroom which is next to a 1910s solid oak bedroom. If they don’t like eating good homemade food in a 1930s dining room they, they can leave.

Walmart is the only game in our podunk town. I purchased an “As Seen on TV” magnetic door screen from there the other day. I looked for the screen for 2-3 years so, as usual here, grab it when you see it or you’ll never see it again. It’s probably made in China but better Walmart and China than evil Amazon.

“”Last week, my brother-in-law stopped by here in Southern Maryland for an overnight visit with my nephew.””

I couldn’t figure out why your brother in law was stopping to visit overnight with just your nephew...then I got what you were trying to say - your brother in law and nephew stopped by for an overnight visit.

I know that wasn’t the theme of your thread but it’s difficult enough today to get the real meaning of most everything that’s said or written or posted so we need to make more clear what it is we’re writing.. No big deal but it takes time to read and re-read things...I know I’m critical but it happens so much, it’s irritating. We all need to slow down so those reading don’t just throw up their hands and go on to something else.

Mostly in farm country, I suppose. They are kicking Tractor Supply’s ass here.

Yeah, before you come to any judgments, review the Bannon, and other video. Also Gordon Chang has some things on youtube to say about this.

Bannon, who is a former Trump advisor and editor at Breitbart, is really well-informed on China.

Tell that to Steve Bannon. He knows more about China in his little finger than you do in that brain of yours.

OK Futureman. I don’t know what timeline you are on but for most of us, August 21st, 2019 was not a year ago.

Why single out Walmart? If you buy the same thing in another store you think it’s not Made in China?

I like veg WalMart. They have lots of stuff made in America, I just buy those things.

When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor one of the things that we discovered is Americans sold them everything they needed to build their war machine. Now they are our friends but let ok at what we had together go through to get there. We are giving China everything they need to destroy us. Don’t do it.

Look for the flag on items and read the labels.

Thanks for venting and sharing, Silvie. Just this morning I bought a new washer and dryer, made in USA, but didn’t get the curtain rod I needed because they were all made in China.

Small adjustments can end up making a big difference.

Checked pricing at the Virginia Beach Tractor Supply (first one in that state to pop up).

Purina Dog Chow Dry Dog Food Complete Adult with Real Chicken, 50 lb. - Bag $23.99. Other Purina dry foods generally more. Other brands cheaper or more.

Have you noticed (and this is especially true for the brands at Walmart) - how many FOOD are now coming here from China? Even something as simple as canned mushrooms... “MADE IN CHINA”... Several fruits, lots of seafood... other canned vegetables...

Remember, the Obama administration approved the rules that allow chicken to be sent over to China for processing, then shipped back to the USA.
