The real purpose of an IG (there is one in every agency and department) is damage control. They are there to act as a firewall against bad publicity. They whitewash problems that can damage their organizations. Never expect any IG to be aggressive in pursuing wrongdoing.

The United States is a Banana Republic. It’s no more complicated than that. Our constitution is relevant to this country as the Soviet Union’s Constitution was to it. In other words it no longer matters.
