Dennis Prager: America’s Second Civil War

It is time for our society to acknowledge a sad truth: America is currently fighting its second Civil War.

In fact, with the obvious and enormous exception of attitudes toward slavery, Americans are more divided morally, ideologically and politically today than they were during the Civil War. For that reason, just as the Great War came to be known as World War I once there was World War II, the Civil War will become known as the First Civil War when more Americans come to regard the current battle as the Second Civil War.

This Second Civil War, fortunately, differs in another critically important way: It has thus far been largely nonviolent. But given increasing left-wing violence, such as riots, the taking over of college presidents’ offices and the illegal occupation of state capitols, nonviolence is not guaranteed to be a permanent characteristic of the Second Civil War.

There are those on both the left and right who call for American unity. But these calls are either naive or disingenuous. Unity was possible between the right and liberals, but not between the right and the left.

Liberalism — which was anti-left, pro-American and deeply committed to the Judeo-Christian foundations of America; and which regarded the melting pot as the American ideal, fought for free speech for its opponents, regarded Western civilization as the greatest moral and artistic human achievement and viewed the celebration of racial identity as racism — is now affirmed almost exclusively on the right and among a handful of people who don’t call themselves conservative.

The left, however, is opposed to every one of those core principles of liberalism.

Like the left in every other country, the left in America essentially sees America as a racist, xenophobic, colonialist, imperialist, warmongering, money-worshipping, moronically religious nation.

Just as in Western Europe, the left in America seeks to erase America’s Judeo-Christian foundations. The melting pot is regarded as nothing more than an anti-black, anti-Muslim, anti-Hispanic meme. The left suppresses free speech wherever possible for those who oppose it, labeling all non-left speech “hate speech.” To cite only one example, if you think Shakespeare is the greatest playwright or Bach is the greatest composer, you are a proponent of dead white European males and therefore racist.

Without any important value held in common, how can there be unity between left and non-left? Obviously, there cannot.

There will be unity only when the left vanquishes the right or the right vanquishes the left. Using the First Civil War analogy, American unity was achieved only after the South was vanquished and slavery was abolished.

How are those of us who oppose left-wing nihilism — there is no other word for an ideology that holds Western civilization and America’s core values in contempt — supposed to unite with “educators” who instruct elementary school teachers to cease calling their students “boys” and “girls” because that implies gender identity? With English departments that don’t require reading Shakespeare in order to receive a degree in English? With those who regard virtually every war America has fought as imperialist and immoral? With those who regard the free market as a form of oppression? With those who want the state to control as much of American life as possible? With those who repeatedly tell America and its black minority that the greatest problems afflicting black Americans are caused by white racism, “white privilege” and “systemic racism”? With those who think that the nuclear family ideal is inherently misogynistic and homophobic? With those who hold that Israel is the villain in the Middle East? With those who claim that the term “Islamic terrorist” is an expression of religious bigotry?

The third significant difference between the First and Second Civil Wars is that in the Second Civil war, one side has been doing nearly all the fighting. That is how it has been able to take over schools — from elementary schools, to high schools, to universities — and indoctrinate America’s young people; how it has taken over nearly all the news media; and how it has taken over entertainment media.

The conservative side has lost on every one of these fronts because it has rarely fought back with anything near the ferocity with which the left fights. Name a Republican politician who has run against the left as opposed to running solely against his or her Democratic opponent. And nearly all American conservatives, people who are proud of America and affirm its basic tenets, readily send their children to schools that indoctrinate their children against everything the parents hold precious. A mere handful protest when their child’s teacher ceases calling their son a boy or their daughter a girl, or makes “slave owner” the defining characteristic of the Founding Fathers.

With the defeat of the left in the last presidential election, the defeat of the left in two-thirds of the gubernatorial elections and the defeat of the left in a majority of House and Senate elections, this is likely the last chance liberals, conservatives and the right have to defeat the American left. But it will not happen until these groups understand that we are fighting for the survival of America no less than the Union troops were in the First Civil War.

Where conservatives do get an occasional win, leftists get three or four. It’s a persistent ratchet toward totalitarianism — one step forward, get dragged backwards three steps.

“Kill your parents” is a phrase attributed to Jerry Rubin, a professional protester who reportedly used it during an anti-Vietnam War rally at Stanford University in early 1970.

Your daughter’s comment to you is as much your fault as hers. Did you send her to the indoctrination center called public school? I bet you did.

And of course, and I jump to a conclusion, now you are going to tell me you could not afford private school or home schooling, all while posting your reply from a $500+ smart phone that costs you $150 a month to support. Needless to say, I do not know if this previous statement is true and it is a shot in the dark but like most Americans, I am sure you are spending plenty of money needlessly such as buying a bigger house than you need, or a bigger more expensive car, or dining out a bunch of times or going on vacations etc etc etc. In short, by sending your daughter to an indoctrination center, you did not raise her right.

You let your daughter be indoctrinated just like millions of others. The phrase, ‘no drop of water ever thinks it is responsible for the flood’ comes to mind.

Bobby Seale: Eldridge was just a pure anarchist. He wanted to pull that Bakunin b***s*** off, you know what I mean?
I mean, to show you what I’m talking about, Eldridge put out a pamphlet called “Catechism of a Revolutionary”-this is after that shoot-out situation. This is a Black Panther Party Ministry of Information pamphlet. I had not read this ****, OK? I did not know it was all Bakunin, the 1800s anarchist.

And Marlon Brando called me up, he said, “Bobby! I’m not going to send you any more money.” Because Brando would give me money. I guess he must have donated ten grand to me. But he says, “I’m not gonna work with you guys any more. You’re running around telling people to kill their mother and father for the revolution. That ain’t right.”

I said, “We don’t do any such g**d*** thing, what the hell’s wrong with you, Marlon?”

“Here on page so-and-so!” “Of what?” He says, “Your ‘Catechism of a Revolutionary’!”

So I says, “Rosemary, hand me that out of my briefcase.” I had the thing in my briefcase for two months and never read the damn thing because I’m busy, I’m organizing too much. So I got on page so-and-so, and he’s reading, “Kill their mothers and...” and I says, “Damn, I’m sorry, man...”

He says, “OK, I’ll see you, bye”-click. So I lost my funding source because of Eldridge Cleaver’s bull.

Later in life, I’m really taking the time to look at this and put two and two together. When I go back to speaking with Eldridge in 1992, we got a chance to get in various conversations. So I’m asking Eldridge, you had “Catechism of a Revolutionary.” I remember you called Martin Luther King a nonviolent fool. Now you’re a born-again Christian on the other side of the fence. So when Little Bobby Hutton was killed, were you operating from the standpoint of “Catechism of a Revolutionary”? He said, yeah, I was just stupid, I just thought we had to do something, boom boom boom.

I am, or was, VERY familiar with Ayers and Dohrn.

My post was simply to correct the attribution of “kill your parents” to the Black Panther Party. There is enough bad to say about the Panthers without mixing them up with the whitest movement in American history.

Obama usurped the presidency twice.

It is now indisputable that Obama posted fake documents on the Internet. This was known within minutes of posting. The right did nothing.

“We haven’t even developed or considered the development of a command structure or how we will fight this war.”

The Left can raise a mob of Antifa and be out there trashing the streets in a matter of hours. We have no such organization or method of organizing. We have many patriots, and many weapons, but no organization. Just sayin...

“We haven’t even developed or considered the development of a command structure or how we will fight this war. “

Fight fire with fire:

The Left’s most successful victory was their “long institutional march” started decades ago.

They took over the Institutions: media, education, courts, etc.

Taking back the media and education institutions would be a good place to start, stand our ground and fight.

Split her share of estate/will among your other children.
If no other kids, bequeath it to a worthwhile charity. No need to reward that vicious insult. Sorry that happened to you. :-(

Yeah, I agree. I like Prager a lot but he twists himself into pretzels trying to make excuses for liberalism. He is a master of clarity except when it comes to liberalism. It’s like can’t quite decide if he means true classical liberalism or just “nice” leftism. I’d almost guarantee you it’s because he’s had influential people in his life, people who he’s admired, who’ve called themselves liberals and he can’t bear to lump them in with the full bore crazy left. These are probably people who were patriotic and open-minded but who liked things like the New Deal and the Great Society. These may have been truly fine people, but unfortunately they accepted some of the left’s basic premises and, in doing so, helped shift the country’s ideological center of gravity leftward, which in turn gave us the modern left that Prager opposes. Of course I am speculating some here.

Interestingly, Eldridge Cleaver became a Christian and a conservative and Bobby Seale became a cookbook writer.

Exactly so.

I've long thought this would not be like a conventional war, but a guerrilla war.

As you said, we don't need a playbook.

The reason progressives are winning is FOR THE SAME REASON DEMOCRATS ARE ON THE SAME PAGE EVERY DAY about news positions - - COHESIVE TALKING POINTS THAT COME FROM ONE GROUP, ONE SOURCE AND OFTEN ONE PERSON...

Here's what they discovered: that you don't have to change the minds of citizens on issues (that takes too long and requires too much money and time). What you do to win is change the minds of the people who make the top decisions. Target ONE editor at a newspaper. Learn everything about him - send him 'ideas' that he will accept. Manipulate decision makers ONE AT A TIME. That's how they're doing it...

I would call what we are in right now a Cold Civil Wat. Unlike the War for Southern Independence, this actually is a civil war. It’s a fight about what narrative prevails - western civilization or nihilistic socialist utopianism - rather than a group of states seeking independence.

Ironically, I think it is the very thing that touched off the previous conflict - ie secession - which is the only means of preventing this one from becoming a hot war. The blue and red states need to separate. Some states need to break apart. The two “tribes” have completely different world views and nothing but contempt for each other.

Was quite interesting here this past week in AZ. Over a foot of snow in an area that the prior record was 14 inches. That record was smashed.
That isnt the point. The point is that I went down to the local store to get a loaf of bread. Not one loaf in the entire valley was to be had. Not bottled water, no bread, eggs, bacon etc. But there was Juice, canned foods, etc. The power went off in a few areas and those people were at the local Gas stations getting coffee and bitching like hell.

I.E.-Civil war? Shut the power off to any particular city and in a week they will kill each other off for food. And all the while there is food all over the place.

BTW. I bought a couple packages of hamburger buns to cover. Went home and the wife and I baked some bread.

LOL!

The Left can raise a mob of Antifa and be out there trashing the streets in a matter of hours. We have no such organization or method of organizing.

I think the reason for this is that the enemy is fighting an offensive war and we are playing defense (to the extent we are playing at all).

Offense is active/proactive and defense is of course reactive.

Until our side realizes it is in a war and accepts the fact that we must fight to save our lives and our way of life, we are just spectators. We are not organized because, for the most part, we aren't even active participants in the war.

I think folks are waking up, slowly at best, but we need a real wake-up call.

Our current situation reminds me of what the U.S. was like before Pearl Harbor.

But Prager contradicts himself because for years his radio program has promoted “kindness” and “niceness” and “civility” instead of fighting. He only reluctantly supported Trump because Trump was the only candidate opposing the corrupt Hillary. This is because American Judaism has been based on the “civil religion” of being nice to those who want to undo the nation. Prager’s radio program had a policy of taking those who opposed him first as call ins. He would always be overly nice to prove that conservatives had the moral high ground. But it didn’t work and liberalism metastasized into Leftism.

Take another annoying flaw that Prager keeps repeating: that tariffs and trade wars will ruin the economy just as the Smoot-Hawley Act of 1930 supposedly resulted in the Great Depression. But statistics show the opposite: GNP has always increased with trade tariffs. But Prager was educated at Columbia University and still clings to Leftist shibboleths.

When facing the emergency of an existential threat a leader of a nation must sometimes do evil to bring about good, but in normal circumstances must rely on conventional Judeo-Christian morality. This is the insight that was given Niccolo Machiavelli, who the Left, academia, Hollywood and “liberal” novelists have mischaracterized as a teacher of evil. But Machiavelli wrote a sermon on “Penitence” and never wrote that evil was anything but evil. But Prager continually says that one must fight evil to be good (”you who hate good and love evil” Micah 3:2). He never recognizes that in an emergency one must use evil and violence to bring about good.
