Here Are the 50 Celebs, Reporters, & Others Covington Kids’ Lawyers Just Officially Targeted

In the wake of a short, out-of-context video put up on Twitter about a confrontation after the Jan. 18 March for Life, pretty much everyone in the media and politics decided to condemn a group of minors from Covington Catholic High School.

And then the facts started coming in.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, over 50 individuals who went after the Covington kids and didn’t retract their statements will potentially find themselves in court after lawyers for the most visible of the students “sent letters to media outlets, individual journalists, celebrities and Catholic organizations as the first step in possible libel and defamation lawsuits.”

The letter from lawyers representing high school junior Nick Sandmann were sent to individuals/organizations ranging “from presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren to actress Alyssa Milano; individual journalists including Maggie Haberman, Ana Cabrera, David Brooks; national media outlets like the The New York Times, CNN, GQ and TMZ; and the dioceses of Covington and Lexington as well as the archdioceses of Louisville and Baltimore.”

“The legal counsel representing Nick and his family, Todd McMurtry and experienced libel/defamation lawyer L. Lin Wood of Atlanta, have said they will seek justice for the harm allegedly done to the teen,” the paper reported.

Others who will likely be included in the suit will be NBC’s Chuck Todd, Newsweek writer/full-time weirdo Kurt Eichenwald, Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, MSNBC host Joy Reid and actor/newly minted socialist Jim Carrey.

HBO host Bill Maher, who called Sandmann a “little p***k” who made a “d*** move at any age,” is also among the possible targets.

“They know they crossed the line,” McMurtry told the Enquirer. “Do they want 12 people in Kentucky to decide their fate? I don’t think so.”

This could be a billion dollar lawsuit by the end. The number of deep pocket defendants, multiplied by their arrogance, adjudicated in a state unimpressed by lying New York “journalists” and Hollywood fools, could create a perfect storm for the plaintiff.

All you have to prove is that a false statement was made — or in Kentucky, the law is even broader, ‘an unflattering impression given and a person’s impression in a false light’ — and otherwise … that it just be negligent to do so.”

And you can bet they will bring the charges in Kentucky. Imagine what a local jury will feel about this.

Under that “theory” any American citizen, who ever sent a letter or e-mail to their state or federal representative, or ever attended a public hearing to give testimony, is no longer a private citizen. That is perhaps the most flimsiest of legal theories I have ever come across.

That is perhaps the most flimsiest of legal theories I have ever come across.

Yeah, almost as flimsy as saying Donald Trump's joke about "maybe the Russians can find Hillary's missing e-mails" was a legally actionable indication of collusion between President Trump and Vladimir Putin.

Fact is, it's already been used, in a way. Protestors at George Mason University tried went to court to sue conservative students who videoed them, and subsequently posted those videos on line.

The protestors claimed that their right to privacy was violated by the students who posted the videos, but the judge dismissed the case by pointing out the obvious: that the protestors chose to waive their privacy rights when they decided to undertake a protest in a public space.

This situation is obviously quite different, but do you really think that will stop left-wing activists from using that argument in court?

Suddenly the first amendment will be well known to all those schmucks. They will wrap themselves in it like a blanket.

They will learn that there is as thorn in that blanket that doesn't protect them from slander and threats of violence that violate the law.

Of course, some liberal judge will let them off the hook eventually but it will be entertaining to watch them squirm.

I'm not a lawyer but I don't think so.

Being in public doesn't make you a "public" figure and even public figures have a right that the truth be told. Many of these people and news organizations didn't do 'due diligence' in reporting the facts or even wanting harm done to these kids. I expect a Kentucky jury will sour on these people wanting to "punch' this kid.
