The Statue of Liberty was never about immigration, and immigration was never about a suicide pact to kill this nation.
Good. They’ve misappropriated the Statue of Liberty anyway. It’s not a Statue of Licentiousness.
Yes, just what I was thinking
Is that a problem?
I am ok with that, if it comes to pass. I will even vacation there and take pictures of me and my family on the USA side of the wall. Maybe we will get lucky and we will see the potential illegal immigrant peering through the wall slats in the back of the picture.
JoMa
Well, OK, would it then work to keep out this swarm of illegals, and the next one and the next one and the next one?
I could handle it.
Give us your lazy, your sick, your no accounts, and your perpetually aggrieved.....
Good. That old, green lady needs a rest.
Yep. My father, his two brothers, and their parents came through there back in 1912. Immigrants were separated, evaluated, and medically cleared for entry. And they had to have a sponsor here to vouch for them prior to their being allowed to come.
After I posted that I was thinking about how people from Mexico and further south came in while Ellis island was still going strong. I presume they crossed the border just like now and there was probably little border patrol for a long time. I wonder when it started and how it has been done over the years.
The wall would stand as a guide to steer the sincere applicants to enter the United States to the designated points of entry, nothing more. The wall would still have appropriate openings along its length.
Venezuelans have even offered to paint the wall, with appropriate murals if that would please the Mexicans, and directions for how to proceed to the next point of entry.
How about a sombrero and serape julie-anne. And you can be the piñata.
Castro would replace the stars and bars with the hammer and sickle.
The Statue of Liberty is not about immigration.
If we get the wall, and someone deems it necessary to carve an inscription on it, please don’t repeat the one on the Statue of Liberty. Let’s come up with something poetic that implies must have a work record, a useful line of work, have a few bucks to start up in this country, be healthy, etc.
be willing to work, and no welfare/medical
Wow I never thought of the southern border in the early 1900’s. There is no telling how many people have crossed illegally over all this time.
And the sponsor had to be willing to support them for 5 years, and take care of medical claims for 5 years.
(Pssst) The Statue of Liberty is NOT on Ellis Island, it is on a much smaller island nearby. Bedloe’s Island is the actual site, and was once the location of an Army fort. The name of the island was changed to Liberty Island in 1956.
The two islands, Ellis Island and Liberty Island, are both part of the same Statue of Liberty National Monument, but the two islands are separated by water, and immigrants never came ashore on Bedloe’s Island.
