Romney gets chilly reception from GOP senators after Trump attack

Sen. James Lankford will occasionally take issue with President Donald Trump’s tactics and rhetoric. But he’s not sure what Mitt Romney was thinking with his biting condemnation of the president before he was even sworn into office.

“It kind of felt like the same thing Trump does to everybody, Romney does to Trump. Smack you, and then want to negotiate,” said Lankford, a Republican from Oklahoma. “It is funny to me that while he was complaining about President Trump’s personal attacks, he was personally attacking President Trump. I don’t know if he sees the irony in it.”

He doesn't, Romney is not exactly self aware nor a good reader of American interests.

Leave it to James Lankford, the Junior US Senator from Oklahoma, to find a way to take both sides at at the same time... just like a good diplomatic Southern Baptist boy from Texas... [flame suit]

The leftists will likely give him a significant sinecure position in gratitude.

He’s bucking to be the new “maverick” Republican.

I agree with your statement, but Southern Baptist has nothing to do with it.

Romney obviously expects to be a shadow president from the senate. He expects to lead the GOP conference and, from that platform, the entire GOP. Problem for him is that all other senators also have huge egos and some of them eventually want to run for president too. Romney is just another freshman senator, nothing more even though the media will help him trash the President at every opportunity.

He could have kept his mouth shut, been real friendly, actually worked WITH the president and become a part of the team who is truly getting things done.

But no, he had to be a huge pissant.

Langford is quite adept at talking out of both sides of his mouth... He is an embarrassment to our state.

Romney, Kasich, and Flake can share the 5-10% of the Republicans who wouldn’t vote for Trump. LOL
