Another French aristocrat ignores the middle class. Will he survive?

“Global warming is the biggest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it.” —John Coleman, meteorologist and founder of The Weather Channel

Paris is experiencing major riots they haven’t seen in fifty years. Protesters say this is the start of a revolution which will eclipse the rioting that occurred in 1968 when France was near civil war. Citizens are protesting a gas tax increase designed to discourage the purchase of vehicles that contribute to climate change. Diesel, the most popular fuel in France is currently $6.35 per gallon after a previous 20% hike and is expected to go to $6.60 per gallon on January 1st. As of late, the protests have widened to include high taxes in general, immigration, and a lowering of the standard of living. Socialist policies are beginning to destroy France. The straw on the camel’s back has climate change written on it and it’s nearing the breaking point.

Under a socialist president, debate was not allowed on the global warming, er, climate change issue. Perhaps under Trump a proper debate can be managed where the proper methods of scientific inquiry will be used. Not fraud Gore’s ‘the debate is closed’ B. S.

There is now a gag that an advisor approached Macron:

“Monsieur President! The peasants cannot afford gasoline and are rioting!”

Macron: “Qu’ils boisson de la diesel” (”Let them drink diesel”).

Just a question.

How much would you pay NOT to have to walk 25 miles?

For me, $3.50 for gas here in Calif. is still a bargain. Don't like it but I'll pay it.

Must be the latest version of the original:

"The peasants are revolting!"
"I know; they stink on ice"

“For me, $3.50 for gas here in Calif. is still a bargain. Don’t like it but I’ll pay it.”

I see your point. We live in a rural area, 90 miles from our doctor and major shopping, 200 miles from our car dealership (We have two Subaru dealers in our state, both 200 miles away).

We two are willing to pay more for gas, but if the reason is right.

The right reasons for paying higher gasoline costs include market factors, such as demand exceeding supply or taxes imposed that are actually used to improve our roads.

The French are upset because their excess fuel costs are going to pay for a fantasy. They are being screwed, they’ve had enough.

Nearest gas station to me, $2.23 and dropping. Unfortunately, it's in NJ; oh well

I posted on another thread something I saw yesterday, since I’m in Paris at the moment. While the riots were going on in one part of the city, there was an anti-climate-change march in another part of the city. There were literally several thousand people at it. And guess what...a lot of them were the “yellow vests,” marching to support the very reason for the latest tax hike. Go figure. Cognitive dissonance.

BTW, the rioters were not the original yellow vest folks, but mostly young, well-armed anarchists plus “yutes,” some of whom spent their time raiding shops. (In Brussels, I think it was, they sacked an Apple store, joyfully carrying off the fruits of the evil capitalism.)

But one thing everybody hates is Macron, who is kind of a modern (sort of male) Marie Antoinette. He hasn’t had time to come out and speak to the French people, but last week he gave a presentation on French TV of the remodeling and redecorating he has been doing to the Elysee Palace. Talk about a tin ear.

Is that gas or diesel? South Alabama is as low as 1.95 for gas but diesel still close to 3.00.

Trump's election in the U.S. prevented us from experiencing the same frustration as the French, British, and European workers.

Over here in the U.S., the working man has been listened to by Trump who is bringing back good paying jobs (more of them than can be filled), reducing taxes, saying sayonara to climate change, and generally kicking the elites square in the teeth.

Heheh.

But the stupid elites across the pond still don't get it.

This is about so much more than gas/diesel prices (though that was the trigger).

This is a revolt of the common man against the tyranny of socialism, rule by out of touch elites, and against the utter disdain that the leaders have for the ordinary citizens by flooding them with Muslim immigrants who have no intention of assimilating, but have every intention of robbing, raping, intimidating, and killing the culture of the indigenous population.

Remember when socialists used to promise a workers' paradise.

Well, they failed.

And guess what? Trump proved that the true workers paradise is only possible under "capitalism."

How do you like them apples, Miss Ocasio-Cortez?

I bought gasoline in Abilene, TX this week for $2.10 per gallon. Locally it is about $2.30.

So that is about 1/3 of what the French are paying.

The issue in France? Global Warming/man made Climate Change is a total lie. Some of the public in France and most of it in the US realize it is nonsense nonscience.

I agree. Government's reason saying, "Because we can." gives you what is going on in France. At some point the people say, "No you can't."
