NEW YORK -- The NFL is attacking the concussion issue on a team-by-team basis.

At the owners meetings in New York on Tuesday, Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL's chief medical officer, said the league identified seven teams in 2017 that had a higher incidence of preseason concussions than the others and "did a targeted intervention with those clubs." Sills said that process involved wide-ranging discussions with the football operations staffs of the teams that included the design of practice drills and which helmets players were wearing.

that included the design of practice drills and which helmets players were wearing.

Of course, penalizing every tackle because the players head was involved somewhere along the line certainly helps.

The NFL...is there a more over-hyped institution in the U.S.?

I read the other day that journeyman receiver Adam Thielen of the Vikings, who has just over 3,000 yards receiving in five seasons in the the NFL, is on pace to have almost 2,000 yards this season and take the number two spot for yards in a single season.

The NFL is broken when the rules are set up to so favor the passing game that a guy like Adam Thielen can do that. It's turning into a video game.

It needs to be a video game in order to attract millennials, who aren’t as interested in rough and tumble old school football as years past.

That’s why the 2007 Patriots and 2013 Broncos did what they did-—score a lot of points.

It has gotten to the point that a decent hit on a receiver is a ‘personal foul’ and God help the lineman that lays a finger on the quarterback. Might as well change it to flag football.

Third year of no NFL for me.

They could reduce concussions to zero by just quitting.

They would not be missed.

Even millenials don't want to see games coming down to "50 yard penalty because defender came close the the receiver" and "Automatic first down because defender's breath is bad and made the QB wince". But that's how it is.

This is a funny commercial for the Call of Duty Black Ops game that mocks that situation pretty well, specifically the ridiculous roughing the passer calls that Clay Matthews has been getting for basically doing nothing.

Maybe if they all knelt during every play all of this would be avoided.

If the nfl were only broadcast on satellite and cable nets like most mlb games, there would be no nfl.

The folks that sit on the rules and competition panel seem to have sustained some perty bad brain damage as well.. it is seriously impacting more than viewership. between them and officials that are clueless and announcers that coddle this idiocy, their days are numbered.. This sport is toast.. no matter how many fans they claim to still have.
