Update from Old San Juan, Puerto Rico and the aftermath of Hurricane Maria on 9/21/18.
Ping.
Thanks.
Leftist propaganda uses Puerto Rico to slam Trump all the time.
It’s good to see actual facts.
— on a side note, why does your Dad live in PR?
He is Puerto Rican. I grew up there. I left at age 18 to go to college in N.H. and stayed here in the mainland U.S. I’m 52 years old.
CORRECTION — Hurricane Maria on 9/21/17.
I’m sure the Media is licking their chops to go after Trump if Hurricane Lane hits Hawaii.
I’m sure there’ll be a “Nasty Woman” waiting in the wings somewhere in Hawaii... have the paper towels ready! LOL!
Thanks.
I’ve been there once, but saw little.
Still very third world. My friend/colleague from India said it reminded him of there.
Thank you for posting your detailed local update about PR following Hurricane Maria!
It’s very developed — too much concrete, yet poverty in the countryside. I grew up in suburban San Juan and I enjoyed my childhood; great memories of growing up there. Too much governmental corruption.
I can’t believe it’s taken this long just for the electricity to be restored. I guess an island nation has its challenges regardless how close they are to the US.
Mrs S and I were talking about taking a vacation down there to help their economy what little we could. Sounds like it’s not time yet...
I’ll be there for 4 days at the beginning of November. (Voting absentee at the end of Oct. for the midterm election).
Hotels, Casinos & Restaurants in the Greater San Juan Area are up & running — and tours to the rainforest and the rum factories are also going good.
I usually go in October or Nov. (except for last week) to stock up on rum & coffee. They make great Christmas presents!
Hope to see you at the 9/22 WMAL FSF event! Best!
Correction: (except for last year).
Yeah, I guess your vote counts more there than in Merryland. Mrs S is a rummy too LOL! Me, I don’t care for it...too sweet I guess. If we go hope you don’t mind if we ask you for some suggestions where to go and what to do. Do they have direct flights from here or do you have to go through Miami?
Just finishing up CP’s podcast getting ready for Mark. Can’t stand Larry O’Connor even though he’s a very nice person it sounds like. He talks too much about himself, I’d rather listen to CP a second time.
ifinnegan must be one of those Irish Peurto Ricans :)

Thanks for the ping - glad to hear that things are getting back to normal...maybe that is the problem.
Please give him our best wishes!
Yes, there are 2 daily direct flight from BWI; 2 direct flights from IAD and one direct flight from DCA. It would be my pleasure to give you suggestions.
Larry has been on vacation — IN HAWAII!! — since last week. They’ve been evacuated from the Big Island to Oahu. He’s posting updates on his Facebook page.
Love Love Love The Planteman! He’s getting better all the time. Can’t wait to see him on 9/22...
Best!
Wife and I visited Arecibo over Christmas five years ago.
Fun. 90 percent of the folks spoke no English...
