Todays Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends)
Open borders in action! A 20 year-old Muslim man was shot and killed by Paris police after he had gone on a knifing campaign in which he murdered one victim and injured four others, shouting Allahu akbar! as went about his merry way. The man had claimed asylum as a Chechnyan refugee 10 years before. Fake analysts on CNN and MSNBC will spend the next month agonizing over what this poor mans motivation could possibly have been.
Your fake news media in action! Well, the media campaign to downplay the coming deal with North Korea to de-nuclearize the Korean peninsula has begun. It was so predictable, but still so tiresome.
Writing at Politico, some guy named Anthony Ruggiero, a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, says that the Crazy Little Fat Guy is setting a trap for Donald Trump. He cites as his reasons for thinking this lessons from previous negotiations with leaders in North Korea. Hooboy. Heres the link read the whole thing for yourself if you have 7-10 minutes to waste.
Look, this deal is already done. The major points have already been negotiated, and all thats going to be hammered out over the next few weeks before President Trump and Kim Jong Un meet in Singapore in early June are the remaining details. Contrary to what Ruggiero says in his piece, every signal we have seen related to this event indicates that the major points of an agreement were settled weeks ago. President Trumps public statements on the matter indicate that, Kims concessions since early April indicate that, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeos multiple trips to North Korea indicate that.
Donald Trump is not Barack Obama or George W. Bush or Bill Clinton, the presidents who tried and failed to reach some sort of accommodation with previous members of the Kim dynasty. Trump is not negotiating from a position of weakness and appeasement with the Crazy Little Fat Guy. He is not, as were his predecessors, especially concerned about what the Brits or the French or the Germans think about it all. He doesnt give a damn what the UN Security Councils concerns might be.
This is a deal that has been struck between the U.S., South Korea, Japan, China and Russia Kim is only a bit player in all of this. Japan is sick of having to worry about the little nitwit firing off a nuke and taking out one of its cities, South Korea is sick of having to spend so much of its national treasure defending itself from its northern neighbor, and Russia and China are sick of dealing with all of the tension and disruption in trade and their economies that Kims antics create.
Contrary to Ruggieros claims, we have not seen concessions of the sort we have seen from North Korea this time in advance of prior negotiations. Think of the major concessions Kim has made since April 1:
- The formal end of the Korean War and the standoff at the demilitarized zone with South Korea, a tense situation that had gone on for 64 years;
- The release of three political prisoners well in advance of the meeting with President Trump, with no U.S. concessions of any kind in return. No easing of sanctions, no bags of money, nothing.;
- The announcement of the dismantling of his main nuclear testing site in advance of the meeting with Trump, inviting international journalists and other observers to be present when it happens.
Yes, there have been releases of political prisoners before, but the other two concessions are completely without any similar precedent whatsoever. After all, how many times can you end a 64 year-old war, or dismantle a nuclear testing site?
One of the bits of sage wisdom that Ruggiero offers President Trump is to Be prepared to walk away from the table, something the President himself has publicly said hed be ready to do on at least a dozen occasions. Great catch there, guy.
But there will be no walking away from the table, because this deal is already done. Donald Trump is not going to fly Air Force One all the way over to Singapore on June 12 unless he knows in advance that the deal is complete and everybody is going to walk away happy.
Ruggeiros bio notes that he spent 17 years in the U.S. government. He might want to spend a few hours reading Trumps book.
Expect to see the media campaign to downplay the upcoming deal with North Korea and deny Trump credit for it to really start ramping up in the coming week. Ruggieros piece is just the first shot across the bow. Yes, its extremely tiresome, but thats all these people have at this point.
Just another day in Donald Trump just keeps on winning for America.
That is all.

Oh my, and I can remember watching Robert McNamara on Phil Donahue in 1985 lecturing about Reagan and Star Wars and other Democrat talking points just as Ronnie was about to go meet with Gorbachev. Seems like the same nonsense over again.
I think Trump may be overplaying this anyway. Were a long way from a deal. If he actually gets a deal that will be huge. But we will probably have to be satisfied with releasing those 3 hostages.
I don’t mean to be vulgar, but it’s necessary in this instance. F#CK the media!
History does tend to correct itself, Kennedy for instance is more akin to an inexperienced philandering loose cannon, than the ‘oh so fantastic’ political figure liberals tried to paint him as.
Nixon, who resigned in disgrace, is actually considered as one of the best statesman of that era. A shrewd, experienced and intelligent politician who was raked over the coals by liberals for crimes that were common place within the Clinton and Obama presidencies. At least he had the manhood and decency to resign, neither of them did.
Reagan brought the communist world and ideals to their knees and essentially won the cold war.
Nobody will learn any of these facts in a school history class... School and college classes are being taught by the people hated Reagan, Nixon and everything conservative... But the truth is out there and serious students of history and serious writers of history are out there telling it.
Trump will get his due.
I was more of a "Firing Line" viewer, so I missed that exchange between two clueless legends in their own minds.
In before the doom-and-gloom crowd.
MAGA!!!
Not if the author of the piece is correct, and the deal is already done.
Its not a done deal. The media is split though. One group is trying to downplay the significance of the meeting. The other is trying to convince you the deal is in the bag so that if it fails Trump will look bad.
Trump won’t go to Singapore if there is not already a deal with securities already put up. Kim may renege at the meeting or later but hu knows that it will all be taken care of without him by other means.If you had been paying attention since the primaries you would know that the release of the prisoners will NOT be the extent of the settlement.
