My sons 30-30 winchester is an early 50s in beautiful shape. But I couldn’t keep it in a paper plate at 50 yards. Couldn’t understand it. My marlin lever Guns could shoot into the same hole at 100. I worked up various loads to no avail…was about to recrown the muzzle when I noticed that the front barrel band was cocking the barrel and magazine tube to the extreme. I took it off and using gentle persuasion opened the band a bit, and reinstalled it. Using a side mount scope I had installed earlier I was now hitting into 2-3” at 100 yards.
