Well, since I am from south Louisiana, and grew up on what is essentially a borderline between historically Creole and historically Cajun areas, I am "very" unlikely to forget it. All of south Louisiana is "way more than just a part of Cajun culture". Creoles, Cajuns, blacks, Indians, and intermarriage combinations of all of those, and a blending of all those (and more) cultures.
A lot of people talk about a "melting pot", but I see both the US (and south Louisiana) more as a "gumbo pot". The original ingredients are still discernible, but they take on a bit of the flavor of all the rest.
I don't know of a certainty, but it is held locally that the family does indeed have some AA connections. In south Louisiana that status is VERY common.

Katrina evacuation plan !
He was the fool who did not even know the Gov had to sign a
document allowing other state troops into LA to help with the hurricane evacuation .
