Please help me get the font bigger for FR on my phone.
iPhone 7 ^ | 02/17/18 | Self

New iPhone 7 recently updated and I can’t remember which browser still allows you to enlarge font on a site like Free Republic and still allow wrap around text in the viewing screen so that you don’t have to scroll left and right like a fool to read each line.

Whyyyyy can’t we have FR work well and visibly on mobiles? Or do I just not know the trick?

Yes I am logged in and yes I do have reading glasses. But this is the only site I cannot read on my phone. Willing to use any browser that would allow me to freep on the go. Thanks.

Ahh... Old age is a beautiful thing.

Last night my 9-year-old daughter asked me to connect her iPhone to my car radio via Bluetooth and the style she picked for her iPhone was white text with a bright orange background which I couldn’t even see even with my readers on.

Try this, not sure it is for iPhone, though:

Other than that, use Linux phone, Windows phone, or Android phone. /S

I have a lot of trouble reading FR on my iphone too.
I have multiple browsers on my phone it is hard to read on all of them .

Settings > display and brightness > text size
to make your text larger on your phone

If the text is still to small on FR
you will probably have to do what I do and that is use your fingers on your screen to zoom in .
(it’s a pain and I hate reading this on my phone)

In my previous post, pay particular attention to the zoom a web page part of the article. I forgot to mention that.

I don’t know about your iPhone, Yaelle, but whoever put ‘whiner’ in the keywords is an idiot. (to put it in toned down words)

I don’t know about iPhone, but on Google Chrome for Android you go to settings then accessibility, then select whatever magnification you want.

I’m sure that doesn’t help you with your device, but it may help somebody else.

Question remains, why doesn’t the text simply wrap (like it used to always do)? Did wrapping technology go away?

This article (almost 4 years old) might kind of sort of explain it. Maybe someone else can explain it better, though.

Try Opera, it has word wrap some call it text-flow that prevents all the swiping left and right. I don't know how Opera works on an iPhone but I use it on android and a double tap adjusts the text size and re-flows the text just right.

Also consider Mono-Vision, you have two eyes, use one lens in one eye for things far and one lens in the other eye for things near. It takes some getting used to but you'll throw away all of your cheaters. You'll be able to read the tiny print on your dash gauges and road signs in the distance. My mom (90years old last March) probably invented it whenever contact lenses first came out. I just started doing this about four years ago and now look back on all the years of cheaters as so much silliness. Try this and you'll never go back.

If all else fails go to YouTube and enter in make text bigger on IPhone 8——or words to that effect and there will probably be a tutorial on it. Seems like there’s a tutorial on just about anything on YouTube. Good luck.

IIRC, at the 1998 Free Republic Convention of Posters the 17th Amendment as adopted was "No phone calls can be made while posting."

Obviously the FR server realizes you may be in violation of the 17th Amendment and applies what is sometimes referred to as the "cold-water shrinkage" factor...

I have an iPhone 7+ and I don’t have any trouble with FR at all. I use Firefox and when the page first opens up, I do a double tap and it increases without need for wrapping. I have no trouble reading it at that size. If I want it bigger I rotate the phone and then double tap again.

Good luck.
