Up n` here in the mountains, us`n`s don need no gun when we us berrying pickin` in them blueberry patches - We just bring them thar pots and pans and we bang away- Them bears `ll never bother you. We been doin` pots n pan bangin` for over 100 yares here,- even the kids go out where the bears are eatin in the patch, then bangin on the pots and pans makes a racket and them bears- well they just run away! We never ain`t had even so much as a 6 yaers old kid get attacked by a bear when they is blueberryin- My Mother done went blueberryin` with her sisters in 1927 when she was 10 yaers old- that bear done come along and bang bang bang on them pots and pans and that bear just run off. HA It is a true story. The bears come here around the house here looking for them berries in the patch but instead of a gun I just grab my big copper skillet, run out and bang away! HHHaaa!

Within 30-miles of the Everglades, the real issue isn’t bears or gators. There are probably more 10-to-20 foot pythons than the total number of bears and gators...

Black bears in Florida?
<>BR>Yep.

The Florida black bear (Ursus americanus floridanus) is a subspecies of the American black bear that has historically ranged throughout most of Florida and southern portions of Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. The large black-furred bears live mainly in forested areas and have seen recent habitat reduction throughout the state.

Wiki. "Florida black bear"

"Without warning, the bear attacked. Neunier recalls..."

Damn bear didn't even have the common courtesy to warn the poor guy?

That's just cold...
