While discussing Republican attacks on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Hardball,” host Chris Matthews referred to attacks on Pelosi as “ethnic politics” and stated that attacking people from the coasts who are “usually ethnic” is an old tactic by Republicans.

Matthews said, “Picking on somebody from one of the coasts, usually ethnic, and making them the poster person of the Democratic Party is old business for the Republicans. They did it with — way back to some guy from the Bronx back in the 40s. They did it with Bella Abzug from the west side of New York City. They did it to Tip O’Neill. They did it to Teddy Kennedy. Now, they’re doing it after Nancy Pelosi. They love to get an ethnic sort of person from one of the coasts and make them the bad person.”

Wut? They (GOP) attack Tip O'Neill, Teddy Kennedy, and now Pelosi, because of 'ethnic politics'. Is this best so-called 'journalists' and 'punditry' can come up with?

The FISA-Gate clearly showed the media's one-sided complicity nature, if a person were not aware of it before. Matthews and Co. are disgusting little worms.

I love it, since the leadership isn’t black, and the “sexism” charge isn’t sticking, they went back a couple of generations for “ethnic”.

Since almost all the leadership on the cloasts is going to be Irish, Jewish or Italian (gee, do Dick Durbin and Michael Madigan feel left out in Illinois?)

With Pelosi in particular, I believe you can have fun if you look at her “ethnic” connections in her family with “Benny Trotta” Magliano of the Baltimore Mob.

Perhaps Republicans have just looked at the source of Hillary popular votes in the 2016 election and realize that "coastal people" were the principal source of her support--and that support was from dense Liberal/Progresssive populations in cities on those "coasts."
