Rosenstein wasn’t just supportive of Trump firing Comey. Rosenstein and Sessions both agreed on recommending that Comey be fired. Rosenstein wrote the recommendation letter to the President,then he indeed did turn around and hire Mueller once Comey was fired. The entire chain of events starting with Sessions’ promise to recuse when asked during his confirmation hearing, stinks worse than a pile of corpses.

Sessions chose Rosenstein as his DAG, then recuses himself from a hoax, and now we have a special counsel coup.
That whole song and dance which led to that outcome was orchestrated. It did not happen by chance.
I’m not holding out any hope that people will be brought to justice.
I'm not a big fan of Rosenstein but this is a gross mischaracterization of what happened.
Rosenstein DID draft a letter or memo outlining the reasons why Comey should be fired. Then President Trump completely undermined Rosenstein with that stupid Lester Holt interview a few days later when he said he wanted to fire Comey anyway. This put Rosenstein in a position where he could very well have been duped by his superiors into writing a recommendation to fire Comey under false pretenses.
