FR has resisted the gravitational pull of profanity all these years. Now because Dick Durbin (Democrat, and documented liar) publicly puts a pottymouth expression in President Trump’s mouth, allofasudden that expression becomes mainstream lingo on FR???I object. I know it’s an uphill battle, but I object. Where do I send my complaint to the FCC?

Years ago after a Sunday School picnic which we had hosted for our little church, I was informed by my wife of two statements by our daughters. An argument had broken out between two people, and our younger daughter remarked to the pastor that “I never heard adults argue before.” And our oldest had remarked to the pastor, “I don’t think Dad knows what ‘PO’d’ means.”When next I saw the pastor, I remarked that in case he was under any illusions about that last statement being true, I had been on a high school football team. And just being in high school would by itself have been quite sufficient, thank you very much.
The claim by Durbin that Mr. Trump had used a pottymouth word to denigrate foreign countries, in and of itself, compromises the international influence of the United States and thus runs counter to the very raison d'être of the US government. Note well, that is true irrespective of the truth - or more likely IMHO the absence thereof - of Durbin’s claim. The claim will likely never be adjudicated, except in the sense that journalists propose to do so by “arguing beyond the sale” of its taken-for-granted “truth.” Durbin had an obvious motive in making the claim. And in doing so he counted on, and got, the support of the sub rosa Democrats of national journalism.The FCC has rules against the use of that sort of language, and neither an individual senator alone, nor broadcast journalists be they never so unified in supporting such senator, have the authority to abrogate those rules. And as far as I am concerned, Jim Robinson has always been right in his decision to enforce, at least approximately, those same rules on FR. That is not to suggest that I am under any illusions that the language in question is not understood by Mr. Trump, or indeed by any and all readers of this forum. It is a matter of traditional societal norms - and thus of class and good taste.
