In 2012 a Chicago Summit was held with the heads of state and heads of government of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This was the first time ever that a NATO summit was held in the United States outside of the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. The event was originally scheduled to coincide and be held after the 2012 G8 summit in Chicago as well, but the G8 summit was later rescheduled to be held at Camp David.
As far as I know no one was becoming suspicious at that time of the UN and its special relationship with Chicago. I guess we were too involved with all the chaotic daily news.
The summit was designated a National Special Security Event with local security forces trained by an Illinois company, Controlled F.O.R.C.E., which specializes in subduing crowds if necessary.
The city signed a $193,461 contract for the upgrade of its police force. New face shields that fit over gas masks would protect police officers from liquids. The Chicago Police Department also prepared its mounted unit with riot gear: armor for horses along with “crowd control training”.
So as you can see Chicago has been preparing for the violence taking hold in its “United Nations Role Model City.” There are no peacekeepers coming in now, as they have been in place for a very long time.

Given the number of deaths being reported in Chiraq in the last Month I’d say the UN is keeping up it’s tradition of being a paper tiger.

The training and the new gear was provided for the huge NATO summit/protest that occurred in 2012.
