Trump Justice Department Pushes for Citizenship Question on Census, Alarming Experts
Huffpost ^ | 12/29/2017 | Justin Elliott ProPublica

“This is a recipe for sabotaging the census.”

The Justice Department is pushing for a question on citizenship to be added to the 2020 census, a move that observers say could depress participation by immigrants who fear that the government could use the information against them. That, in turn, could have potentially large ripple effects for everything the once-a-decade census determines — from how congressional seats are distributed around the country to where hundreds of billions of federal dollars are spent.

The DOJ made the request in a previously unreported letter, dated Dec. 12 and obtained by ProPublica, from DOJ official Arthur Gary to the top official at the Census Bureau, which is part of the Commerce Department. The letter argues that the DOJ needs better citizenship data to better enforce the Voting Rights Act “and its important protections against racial discrimination in voting.”

A Census Bureau spokesperson confirmed the agency received the letter and said the “request will go through the well-established process that any potential question would go through.” The DOJ declined to comment and the White House did not respond to a request for comment.

Good - I hope the DOJ can achieve this - CA might lose seats in the House if half their "population of illegals" refuse to respond.

We have an unsustainable crisis of alarmed experts in this country. Something really needs to be done about them.

They're not "immigrants". They're ILLEGAL ALIENS. They should be hunted down, rounded up and DEPORTED.

I see it’s now racist to know how big the illegal population is. Wonder how much more accurate Democrat polling would be if they too asked if the person is a citizen.

CA is over represented by an estimated 8+ congressional legislators due to the existing census rules counting illegals.

CA is *not* alone.

The reason for being of the census is apportionment. There are also privacy walls for this data. Without it, there’s an Equal Representation issue.

Experts are alarmed that the census will reveal that large chunks of the populations of blue states are made up of illegal invaders, and that blue states will see a drop in federal funds when they are allocated based only on legal residencies.

I suggest the alarmed experts get some Depends.

I wonder if there is going to be a spate of identity theft to prevent California from losing seats and money? What would happen if people who live and work in other states were reported as living and working in California? You could get (non-leftist) workers already on the payroll to deal with it. That would probably be the most cost-effective fix.
