Online retailer says Californians stocking up on ammo ahead of Prop 63

California gun owners are making a mad dash for ammo, retailers report, ahead of Proposition 63’s looming deadline.

Online ammunition retailer AmmoMan.com said sales have skyrocketed in the weeks leading up to January, with Californians snatching up 50 percent more ammunition than gun owners in other states.

“Californians are ordering more than customers in other states right now which suggests that they are stocking up,” Eric Schepps of AmmoMan.com told Guns.com in an email. “What is even more glaring is the number of folks coming to our site right now and buying as opposed to just shopping or reading content. The number of actual ammo buyers versus just shoppers is about double the normal rate for California visitors right now.”

Prop 63, backed by California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s as the “Safety for All” voter proposition, requires background checks prior to all ammunition sales in addition to a moratorium on direct internet sales. The measure states vendors must secure an annual permit in addition to placing requirements on dealers that state ammo be displayed in a manner that is not accessible to the public — such as in a locked cabinet.

The legislation has caused backlash among the gun community with one small ammunition maker already out of business and other gun rights groups promising legal action over the initiative.

While 2A organizations go to bat for California gun owners, it seems Californians are wasting no time freely stocking up on ammo from vendors while they still can.

More laws designed to harass gun owners that will have no impact on crime. It’s like the state is saying if you’re not a wild eyed liberal you don’t belong here. Might be right.

I really don’t want any 2a cases to make it to the SC until Trump gets another appointment. Last time it was 5-4 and Kennedy was very wobbly.
We almost lost.

NO SALES TO PUBLIC EMPLOYEES.

If the Gun dealers were united, they would come up with their very own policy, ALL Purchasers of Guns and Ammunition shall provide a copy of their Tax Return to verify they are NOT a Public Employee in the State of California.

Require ALL Public Employees to ILLEGALLY purchase their ammunition and weapons from Out of State vendors in Direct Violation of State and Federal Laws.

O am not sure this is in effect but Denver wants to ban storage of more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition in private houses. If it becomes part of fire code, insurance payouts would be affected.

They can't prove that you have it if they cna't find it.

Gee, there was a time in Ca they were concerned about the Minute Men....that was the boogy man of that time. IMO, any attempt by those a holes in the Cal legislature to limit sporting/defensive arms and ammunition is nothing but their voting for their self preservation interests. One of these days someone is going to wake up those in Ca who seem unaware or unconcerned about what is going to happen to them when they are unarmed. That is the ultimate goal of the liberal Nazi movement in that state where it seems to have a very aggressive nature and the upper hand.

One should ALWAYS be stocking up on ammo, no matter WHERE you live or WHO is trying to step on your RIGHTS at any given moment! :)

When the Socialists figure out they can’t take our guns, you KNOW they’re going to finally figure out how to TRY to take our ammo. Frankly, I’m VERY surprised they haven’t tried that to any great extent, yet!

That is right. We got the message and fled California in 2015. Best thing we ever did in our entire lives.

Once we got to Tennessee, we went to Bud’s and bought four guns. It felt so odd to be able to waltz right out the door with them—instant background check.

Unlike in California, you can talk about guns all you want here, anyplace, anytime.

I had a lovely chat with my hairstylist the other day about the two guns my husband bought for me.

It’s glorious.

Another conservative couple we know from SoCal just pulled up stakes and moved to Mississippi.

The sane people are systematically getting out of the Golden State.

The filthy California government is as bad as the filthy EU.

My SIL and BIL moved from El Cajon, CA to CDA, ID.

They are trying to get my FIL to move from Thousand Oaks, CA (Reagan country) to there. They will probably end up in Reno area of NV.

Both of them got their guns out of there a couple of years ago. Absolutely maddening.

The NRA should FIGHT this in the Courts!

It is a DIRECT violation of the Constitutional ban on interstate commerce regulation by the states!!!!

The feds already tried that a few years ago. Several alphabet agencies including the FDA and the IRS put out contracts to the ammunition manufacturers which the manufacturers had to make a first priority. The contracts were for millions of rounds of every caliber of cartridge available to the public. As a result, and as intended by the feds, for s few years the supply of ammunition to the public dried up. It took the manufacturers so much time and bench space to fulfill these huge contracts worth millions of dollars they were unable to send any product to retail outlets. This was Obama in action.

The state ought to split in two. From the coast to about 100 miles inland leave to the snowflakes. The rest of the state can live in relative freedom.
