Senate GOP DACA plan follows long history of avoiding workplace enforcement

"I have no good explanation whatsoever for why (mandatory) E-Verify was not included in the Republican Senators' immigration proposal that was released a couple of days ago," Congressman Lamar Smith of Texas said today.

Smith, who will retire next year, has been trying to stop U.S. employers from hiring illegal workers for nearly all of his 30 years in Congress and has introduced mandatory E-Verify legislation during most of that time.

Pulitzer-prize-winning journalist Jerry Kammer said there is a primary reason Smith's long battle to protect workers from illegal-labor competition has failed thus far:

Congress has always found it much more politically palatable to put money into the border patrol than to control the worksite. And if you don't control the worksite, if that job magnet remains active, people are going to find a way . . . especially those who . .. in the words of former labor secretary Ray Marshall, work hard and work scared ."

Is that why Senate Republican leaders introduced a three-year DACA amnesty this week without a mandatory E-Verify provision to deter another flood of illegal immigration?

Come on, Congressman. Don't be so disingenuous. You know perfectly well that the mega-donor class calls the shot on that. They're the ones who would be hardest hit by eVerify enforcement. They don't want it. So, it's not there.

Any policy towards illegals must - MUST - address the incentives that are set up by that policy. Are you incentivizing more to try their hand at illegal entry or are you incentivizing them to stay home and apply through the legal process?

With 600 million people south of our porous non-existent southern border and untold millions outside the Americas who might also avail themselves of this easy access, there can be only one immigration policy -

Stop giving prizes

for illegal entry.

Any measure that permits those who entered illegally to benefit from that illegal act is amnesty. And any amnesty will bring millions more invaders.

This must be stopped.

Will you help stop this?

You can help:

When you get fundraising solicitations, include a copy in your reply. Send copies to your friends and family and ask them to do likewise. Spread it everywhere.

While we’re at it e-verify for drivers licences. Sure some States allow illegals to get drivers licences but the e-verify would prevent them from lying on the motor-voter registration.

The real reason has something to do with illegal immigrants, but it has a lot to do with the American “grey” economy.

That is, for a multitude of reasons, an estimated several million Americans are not part of the “system”. Often they do not have or want ID cards, licenses, permanent residences, and they work for and buy goods only with cash.

As a group, they fear and loathe, and certainly do not trust government at any level. Almost all do not pay income taxes, nor at their income level would they be required to.

Bureaucrats see them as prey, and strive to “normalize” them and make them part of the system. These are people willing to do without rather than take handouts from the government, and the government does not like it one bit.

Again, they have numerous reasons for doing this, and yes, some are criminals. But that is not the dominant reason, and there are plenty of people in the system that are criminals as well.

But instead of dismissing the grey economy, it would be wise to understand it, because you never know when you and yours might have a life or death reason for joining it.

Even at the height of the Soviet terror, the Soviet Union also had a gray economy, probably larger than ours, and though they tried, they could not eradicate it. A good thing, as it turns out, for as their empire was crumbling, it was the gray economy that helped sustain their people.
