I agree with the original Terminator as #1—it was groundbreaking.

Also:
— Die Hard
— Aliens
— Indiana Jones (Lost Ark & Temple of Doom)
— Fight Club (not strictly an action movie, but damn)
— John Wick (I & II)
— Skyfall (epic motorcycle chase)

Pre 1980:
— To Hell and Back [the Audie Murphy story]. All the more great because it really happened.
— The Dirty Dozen
— Kelly’s Heroes (Oddball, LOL)
— The Longest Day
— Sands of Iwo Jima
— You Only Live Twice (a lot of people don’t like this Bond movie, but I always did)

The Killer
Hard Boiled
A Better Tomorrow 1 & 2

These make Die Hard look PG13!

YOLT is one my favorite Connery Bond movies.

Amazing that a modern for the time launch facility and no one around ever notices.

Little Nelly is a neat toy.

"So there were no great action movies before 1980?"

"Everything you post looks like it's written by a 7th grader."

HA! And there's the reason he didn't list any great action movies made before 1980.

Bullit 1968 gets my vote. Earlier action is a sure thing.
