FR Login problem (vanity)

Posted on 10/28/2017 11:52:00 AM PDT by RebelTex

Currently using Firefox to login and post because, today, I can no longer login with IE9 as I have for 15 years.

I reach the main forum page, nut not logged in as usual (convenient was selected). Tried to login and got:

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

What's up with that?

My system info:

IE-9 (both 32 & 64-bit) Version: 9.0.8112.16421 Update Version: 9.0.59 (KB4012204) Cipher Strength: 256-bit Product ID: 03553-997-7332157-00141

Windows Vista HP SP2 64-bit AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor 2.30 Ghz Ram: 4.00 GB

(browser used for this post: Firefox ESR 52.4.0 (32-bit))

I prefer IE for FR because (in the past) I never had to login due to using the 'comvenient' option and an exception for FR in IE cookie options. (Can't get that to work for FireFox, so I always have to login.)

Question: Has FR changed what browsers are allowed or supported?

Any ideas or suggestions?

(Yes - I'm logged in now - I think, LOL)

Cleared cache an cookies?

Try a different browser — if Chrome skeeves you, download Opera.

This isn’t an FR problem.

And IE sucks no matter what but it is needed for business applications.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Already cleared cache an cookies. Using Firefox now. I just prefer IE for FR; always logged in and convenient - well, it was until today, lol.

15 years might be a tad bit beyond the software’s shelf life.

It’s time to try something new. You will get used to it. Change is good.

If you want speed, try Brave.com browser. (From the former CEO of Mozilla before he was ousted for contributing to the group opposing gay marriage in CA.)

IE 9 is really, really old — probably MS has given it a poison pill (or a lethal injection).

Can you at least get it to 11?

I think it happened months ago when FR updated its security ‘certificate’.

I have an old IE-based tabbed browser that I like to use for FR. Several months ago, my desktop shutdown due to a loss of electricity. When I restarted it, the tabbed browser needed me to log in. The process kept erroring. All non-IE based browsers work, but IE-based browsers won’t.

I notice at log in, it now switches to an https page, but stalls out.

On my laptop, I am still running the old tabbed browser and am still logged in. I have a suspicion that, if I ever have to reboot, I might lost FR log-in on that machine.

I hope there is a solution. I need that tabbed browser because it has some add-ons that have no comparable modern-day equivalents.

Now that Firefox is changing the way add-ons work in ver 57, I find I am losing about half of my FR add-ons. Many creaters have already given notice that they will not be updating their extentions/add-ons because it is too much work, considering the Firefox rapid release insanity.

Vermont Lt, thanks for the suggestion. Yes, this is an old machine, but I only use for personal stuff like forums and blogs.

Perseverando, thanks but Brave won’t work on Vista - Firefox is ok, just curious about why IE worked until today.

freedumb2003, upchuck, and dfwgator - actually, I’ve used IE and Windows since they were introduced (forced to comply for business compatibilty).

I had an old OS at work and eventually had problems with IE. IE seemed fine on Win7+ but I got the same window on XP or lower operating systems, I don’t know anything about it but heard it was they quit supporting some ‘https’ formats.
