Free speech activist: NFL, NFLPA meetings a 'rejection' of Trump's divisiveness
CBS Sports ^ | October 17, 2017 | Cody Benjamin

Indications from Tuesday's meeting between NFL owners, players, executives and NFL Players Association personnel are that all sides identified "common issues" and engaged in "productive" conversation about how to "work together to promote positive social change and address inequality" in the wake of peaceful protests across professional sports.

The meeting, which came a day after reports that the NFL would formally endorse criminal justice legislation and finance a social activism boot camp, marked a "coming together," according to the league and NFLPA. NFL Network's Judy Battista suggested the dialogue Tuesday in New York was the "best communication [there] has ever been between players and owners."

And ESPN's Jim Trotter reported that NFL owners expressed "unconditional" support to work with players in addressing social issues, "meaning there was no demand by owners that players stop kneeling" in protest during pregame national anthems.

What the meeting also signified, according to Suzanne Nossel, executive director of PEN America, a New York City-based organization centered on defending free speech and persecuted journalists, was a rebuke of commentary on the situation by President Donald Trump....

That the NFL and the NFLPA might be getting along is not the question.

At issue is whether the NFL/NFLPA will continue to antagonize their customers.

I went to the Dodger’s game on Sunday night. The entire crowd and both teams stood to honor a veteran and stood for the National Anthem. It was my first Dodger game in 52 years.

I’m done with the NFL. It’s the players who have done it. Screw them.

And yes, that was one hell of a finish for the Dodgers. I’m glad I was there.

Let the NFL die. Other football leagues have come and gone. Time for this one to Crash And Burn.

Free speech = SJWs bullied their opinions and views and anybody with a dissenting opinion was “politely” told they’d be out of a job.

The NFL is fully politicized. Those in red state city governments should revoke any and all tax credits and the NFL lease.

Buh-bye NFL.

these idiots can blame Trump all they want - but it’s not Trump that’s abandoning the TVs and arenas, it’s the silent majority that’s about up to here of being silent.

engaged in "productive" conversation about how to "work together to promote positive social change and address inequality"

Helloooo, Cody...

You will notice that "National Football League" does not have the words "promote social change" in it.

It's about football. It's a game.

All these gomers who want to have "conversations" about social change, head for your local college campus.

Great to hear that about the Dodgers game. Same thing at the LA Kings game last Wednesday at Staples. Huge ovation for a Marine who was honored at the game. Gotta love the NHL. There are a couple of clowns out there, but for the most part hockey players and fans are very patriotic. GKG!

What makes one an ‘activist’ and how does one get to be an ‘activist’?

Are there any special qualifications to be one?

Are there ‘activist’ for everything or only certain things?

I mean lets say I wanted a free car? Can I hire an ‘activist’ to help get one?

Is it in the Constitution somewhere that everyone gets an ‘activist’ or can be an ‘activist’?

when I was a little kid about 8 years old, I remember wondering why we were standing for the national Anthem at a Dodger game,

I thought we were there to watch a game, we weren't there just to honor fallen heroes or display patriotism , but I figured hey that's OK, I will go along for sure !

even an 8 year old has more intelligence than these useful idiot jocks.

They don't even know they are being used, too many concussions I guess

Could you be more specific? All the players are spoiled millionaires, many spoiled millionaire criminals, so take a knee on your own time and not on your employer's dime, in the off season, then let's see what you accomplish on "common issues," "productive" conversation, and "working together to promote positive social change and address inequality". I'll bet nothing while they drive their fancy cars, party, and booze it up.
