U.S. adults disregard potential negative impact of Amazon's presence
Time is running out for cities to submit their bids to become Amazon.com Inc.’s second home.
The tech giant announced plans last month to open up a second headquarters — and its hunt for a host city. Bids from metropolitan areas are due Thursday.
There are plenty of willing contestants: Mayors across the country have launched viral-worthy campaigns enticing Amazon to choose their cities, with the winner set to be announced sometime in 2018.
A Sept. 29-Oct. 1 Morning Consult survey found that 72 percent of a national sample of 2,201 adults support the retail and technology giant setting up its headquarters in their hometown or nearest large city, with half saying they strongly support it. Notably, majorities of every subgroup surveyed are in favor of Amazon’s presence in their area — including 72 percent each of suburbanites and urbanites and 70 percent of rural dwellers.
The tech giant also enjoys a 76-percent net favorability per Morning Consult Brand Intelligence, one of the highest rankings for any brand polled.
For many American cities, less than a decade after the recession, a huge Amazon presence could be the opportunity of a lifetime. The online retailer promises the winning city up to 50,000 jobs and over $5 billion in economic investment.....

i don’t care how much people say they save thru amazon and i used to find great used books thru it, I have not bought anything thru amazon in over a year and will not play into the subsidies bezos gets nor give him any of my money. I’m not against him making money, I just would rather support businesses I have similar beliefs and views with or at worst support local business even if I differ on beliefs and views.
Ask them if they still want it when the butcher’s bill for the bribes...er, incentives lands in taxpayers’ mailboxes.

I rather the money go to the independent book sellers and the delivery guys than to be all sucked up by Bezos.
Amazon is far and away the leading provider of (among other things) online storefronts, and they gobble anything relating to electronic business.
They have balanced on a rasor’s edge above antitrust actions for years.
That has to be taken into consideration before catering to them because it’s only a matter of time before Amazon gets chopped up into smaller corperations.

This is one business I don’t want to come to Texas.

I would be glad to welcome Amazon’s new HQ, to Baltimore.
Even though Austin would be ideal as a far safer environment for their second headquarters, the traffic sucks and there’s no place to build it.
People where I live were soooo excited when Amazon announced they would be building a distribution center here.

I once lived in a large city that routinely offered huge tax incentives to companies to move there and they were very successful. However, all the citizens ever saw was an increase in their taxes, prices at the store skyrocket, school systems hurt and a nightmare traffic jam all hours of the day. No thanks, Keep Amazon away from my small part of the world.

Make way for the “ecosexuals”- Makin sweet sweet love to the planet and all of it’s “sexy” life...humping trees, wallowing and writhing while getting off on the mud, etc. It’s a hot time in the old town tonight! /s
That is so true; the local taxpayers are forced to subsidize the new company, and it doesn’t pay off in terms of jobs. My town demonstrates what happens decades after companies leave; the legacy of huge police and fire departments, and massively expensive government workers (especially teachers), pushes property taxes north of $10K annually in a very average town sandwiched between Newark and Jersey City NJ (this is not a wealthy area). Nothing was cut back after those companies left; most towns here have volunteer fire departments, and we still have a large paid one to protect what is now desolate brownfields.
