Australia has one of the strictest firearms regulatory schemes in Western Civilization. It has not appreciably changed their overall murder or suicide or accidental death rates, which were already low and falling when the scheme was implemented.
As Australia is an continent considerably separated from the rest of the industrialized world, it is a near ideal test case for the efficacy of gun control schemes. A figure from an Australian government report on sources of illegal guns shows that when guns are tightly regulated, criminals find ways around the regulation.

Given that Australia shares many similarities of geography and spirit with the USA, how did they go so whacked? They have a sparsely populated country full of wilderness, and nasty critters, and remote agricultural stations far, far from any kind of law. At one time Australians were tough and self-reliant.
What happened, mate?

Well, probably since it was a UK penal colony initially......... Brits and guns around a criminal element? Not so much.

...when guns are tightly regulated, criminals find ways around the regulation.Isn't that ALWAYS the case? Many times I find very little difference between a politician and criminal except the criminal tends to be more honest with their intentions. The idiocy over firearms has little to do with safety and security of the people,it's the CONTROL of the people not guns.

A very intelligent friend of mine put it in one sentence:
They never had a revolution.

"...when guns are tightly regulated, criminals find ways around the regulation." When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

Mass shooting caused a hysteria which was exploited by a shithead politician named John Howard.
