Is New York About To Face An Energy Crisis?

Amid the fracking boom that brought natural gas prices to historic lows and led to the transition of a lot of power generation capacity from coal to gas, New York and New England may face power shortages tantamount to an “energy crisis” due to state policies in recent years that have effectively banned fracking and blocked pipelines that would bring in gas, writes the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal.

Ever since the previous governor, David Paterson, introduced a moratorium on fracking in New York back in 2010, the state has become a poster city for the drive towards renewable energy, with Peterson’s successor, Andrew Cuomo, banning fracking indefinitely in 2014 and last year blocking the construction of the Constitution pipeline that would have transported natural gas from Pennsylvania to upstate New York and New England.

This will lead to all cars in the region being powered by a small rooftop windmill.

I think the Oil Companies should help them out by immediately Banning All Sales in the State. They are being sued by the State over Global Warming and to continue to do business in the State would be a severe Conflict of Interest and could possibly lead to enhanced liability.

Let New Yorkers shiver or swelter in darkened homes and offices...they voted for these liberal idiots and elections have consequences.

Meanwhile, look at what a Republican mayor and the city council are pulling on the citizens of a city in Upstate NY....

Residents could see smaller utility bills, new Elmira local law passed

Texas has thousands of miles of pipelines bringing gas and oil to states that hate its gas and oil industries. Due to the current abundance of fossil fuels and a change in the law, TX can now export its energy surplus to other countries at a more profitable price than sending it to domestic markets.

Better buy extra sweaters and blankets if you live in an energy free state.

NYS wants energy: renewable energy. Albany has a mad-on for non-renewable energy suppliers. That cr@p going on in Elmira is a case in point.

The Governor has already indicated his intent to close down certain nuclear power plants in proximity to NYC.
That will increase the demand and need regionally for more electrical power for the urban location.
A few years ago, he was touting an underwater power supply line buried underneath Lake Champlain in order to supply
and import cheaper Canadian hydro-power than what can be produced in New York State.
I haven't heard anything recently about the reality of such a plan in the past few years.

Blocking pipelines? They deserve to freeze in the dark for electing morons that block energy from coming into the state.

The only way Marxist Governor Cuomo can be defeated in NY where voters are Democrats is to have something like energy prices double and voters vote their pocketbooks.

And the faster you go, the more energy you make! Why didn’t someone think of this sooner?

Mario Cuomo shutdown the Shoreham Nuclear Plant ( one reactor at 820 Megawatts) on Long Island after it had achieved criticality (self-sustaining fission chain reaction) but before it had generated any electricity in 1989.

Now, his son wants to shutdown the Indian Point Energy Center (two reactors with a combined capacity of just under 2100 MW).

I wonder where the replacement power will come from.

WV could maybe help out, however our electricity is generated from coal and gas and they are evil, so that will not work.

PA, WV and eastern OH have a great deal of gas, there are several pipelines now in works to get it to users.

Some of the better shale formations are in NY, yet you are ruled by progressive/communists who think you are not paying enough for energy.

Remember when CA ran out of electricity because of their price controls on what consumers could be charged when energy prices were going up and CA was buying it from outside the state?
