According to LawNewz, the Trump administration is now regularly using a term that has rarely been used by the federal government since 2009:
There has been a shift in the language that the U.S. Department of Justice is using in its press releases and official announcements, and its not sitting well with some. The DOJ, under the leadership of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has begun using the term illegal aliens to refer to immigrants who do not have the proper paperwork to be in the United States.
Under Obama, the de rigueur term was undocumented which sanitized what was going on. As the Chicago Tribune complains:
[I]n the July 9, 2014, announcement, Department of Justice Announces New Priorities to Address Surge of Migrants Crossing into the U.S., then-Deputy Attorney General James Cole chose such language as migrants, asylum seekers and unaccompanied minors.
Naturally, a lot of people who arent fans of Sessions are displeased:
Theyre using a legally inaccurate term thats deployed to unfairly label and scapegoat people who are out of status due to a variety of systemic circumstances, Xakota Espinoza from the Center for Racial Justice Innovation, told LawNewz.com The i-word is legally inaccurate, politically loaded, dehumanizing to the people it describes and likely unintentionally fuels racial profiling and violence directed toward immigrants, Espinoza explained.
Department of Justice referring to people here as what they are, illegal aliens, brings a level of clarity to the issue that had been obscured in a cloud of legalese and motivations.
Session’s Justice department is offending undocumented immigrants now :)
Enough of the Obama word games.
how the hell is it “legally inaccurate”???
One small step for the Department of Justice, one giant step toward preserving our country.
I can live with it but it still sounds like “Oops, forgot my papers on the way to the US.
My personal favorite is ‘criminal alien’
On second thought, someone record who's passing out and pissy fitting so they can be processed pink slips by this Friday, LOL.
Where's my popcorn?
Calling someone an “Undocumented Immigrant” is like calling shoplifting an “Undocumented Purchase.”
In all fairness, a plain reading of the. Constitution, what the several States that ratified it we told it meant, is deemed by the left to be legally inaccurate.
It’s kinda like how Sharia describes words like “Justice” or even “terrorism” and being things which are not Justice and which exclude so much that is terrorism.
Just what part of “ILLEGAL” don’t you understand?
It’s ILLEGAL to drive a car without the right documents isn’t it? It’s ILLEGAL to open a doctor’s office without a special document from your appropriate college.....and on and on and on.
... or espionage an undocumented technology transfer.
Did Session’s have ‘Come to Jesus’ moment?
I prefer the term “Illegal Invader”
Immigrants are Invited, Invaders are Repelled.
Finally someone is sticking up for us IMMIGRANTS...
