A new recycled fiber processing plant is set to open today in Scappoose.
Cascades Tissue Group is expected to create 69 new jobs in Scappoose and preserve 114 existing positions in St. Helens.
The strategy was partially backed by a $500,000 investment from the Governors Strategic Reserve Fund. Cascades also collected $60,000 to renovate its St. Helens plant in 2014.
Oregon is proud to make investments into businesses that show promise to create local jobs, generate sustainable growth, and act as catalysts for future economic development in the region," said Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, in a release.
Brown will appear at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
Cascades employs more than 11,000 workers globally.
Trigger word “sustainable”
So it must be good
It would have been easier to give the first 60 applicants a million dollars and call it a day.
Willing to bet that it folds like the solar panel and other “sustainable ventures” within a year or so.
I had a Fraternity Brother at U of Oregon who told me when he was young and was acting badly his father would tell him: ‘You better straighten up or I’m going to take you to Scappoose!’
His father was a Police Detective and the word Scappoose always scared my Frat Bro.
He laughed the first time he travelled to Scappoose.
So did I when I saw ‘the worlds largest candle’ in Scappoose (alas it no longer holds this designation) at a Cross Country meet.
I think Trump should tell McConnell and Ryan that they need to shape-up or He’ll take ‘em to Scappoose!
Scappoose is a nice place and needs jobs as much as anywhere, but Oregon state government has a history of giveaways to private industry that don’t meet the promised results.
