Tyranny and Fear – This is the Reason the MSM is Such a Craven Mess

Forget everything you are taught to believe about press integrity and honesty. The days of the “tough beat reporter” tracking down the story no matter the cost are long gone; journalists and reporters are not out for the big scoop anymore…because they are too scared. The previously proud press has been beaten into submission through years of oppressive measures and have emerged as lapdogs of the State. And the person most to blame for this? Barack Obama.

Since 2002, the United States ranking in Press Freedom has fallen from 17th to 43rd (just behind Burkina Faso). And much of this shameful drop comes from two main policies. The first being the ardent persecution of journalists and the punishment of organizations that publish against government interests, and the second is the extensive use of the Espionage Act to go after people even indirectly associated with those that leak.

Anyone who actually thinks about the implications of the term “associated press” will (over time) realize that if all the presses are “associated,” in reality we only have one press.

The “individual member” presses are actually fronts for that one press. And those fronts bitterly resent and criticize anyone who presumes to actually compete with their singular viewpoint.

Commercial journalism as we know it is negative (if it bleeds, it leads) and also insistent on its own objectivity. Those are commercial imperatives of journalism. The also constitute an excellent example of what Alexander Hamilton warned us about:

“The republican principle demands that the deliberate sense of the community should govern the conduct of those to whom they intrust the management of their affairs; but it does not require an unqualified complaisance to every sudden breeze of passion or to every transient impulse which the people may receive from the arts of men, who flatter their prejudices to betray their interests.”

One would be hard put to compose a better definition of “cynicism” than “the insistence that negativity is objectivity.” And, of course, cynicism is the opposite of conservatism - as well as of faith.

This article would have you think that the only problem with “the press” is that Obama attacked it. The true problem with “the press” is that it consists of people whose principle is their own authority.

Journalism has never been about the disinterested pursuit of truth in an objective manner; not today, not ever. Never. There was always a hidden agenda that every news organization in history was advancing in their own selfish interest. And that includes Nobel and Pulitzer.

The mythology about some gum-shoe reporter going after ne’er-do-wells to “speak truth to power” was always and everywhere a Marxist smokescreen to bring about the destruction of western civilization. And they’ve done their work very well.
